QFT - this is the best solution get rid of join a game altogether - this idea has huge merit lots of positives and no obvious negatives
Don't now why people on here don't like being cooks, remember under siege: A former SEAL, now cook, is the only person who can stop a gang of terrorists when they sieze control of a US Navy battleship.

then old games will never be filled by all the deadbeats etc. It would result in the triples players waiting for eternities for their games to fill up.

Noob comes and wants to join a game. Noob can't find game. Noob leaves and never comes back.

I see a slightly different problem ...

I always just use the game finder, precisely so I can choose my game types.

As another thread pointed out, it is often nice to join games that are almost filled up. That way you know who you are playing and are know the game will at least start soon.

Maybe the "join" game could be used to combine these two problems -- let folks pick a game with only x numbers of people LEFT to fill spaces, instead of # of players and freestyle or sequential. Team vs not team, as noted above would maybe be another selection option.

This keeps it tidier without duplicating the "game finder"

Sort Feature on the "Join a Game" page

Postby Brett J on Mon Feb 25, 2008 8:17 pm

At the time of this writing there are 24 pages of public games looking for additional players. To simplify the process of finding a game you like, why not add a sorting feature that allows a user to winnow down the selection according to his/her preferences?

For example, I hate escalating card games; I think they are for ten-year olds. I would like to be able to sort those out and get to the ones that interest me.

Thanks.

join a game type segregation

Postby magpies on Sat Mar 22, 2008 4:02 am

id like to put one forward to seperate game type choices on join a game.maybe put triples, doubles and so on in groups instead of time posted then you can go straight to the game of your choice type, then looking through so many would save alot of time.go pies

Different sort options for "Join a Game"

Postby RedRover23B on Mon Mar 31, 2008 12:18 am

Concise Suggestion: A good idea may be to develop different means for sorting "Join a Game" games.

Specifics: Create sort options by map, type of play, fortifications, fog of war, number of players, the amount of points in the game, etc...

Details: If there could be developed a method where a player can view the "Join a Game" with the sort options mentioned above than that should cut down on the number of waiting games as well as the player getting exactly what they want to play. This may cut into the use of the game finder but I do believe that both together would be a good addition.

Filter for Join Game screen

Postby Preemo on Fri Oct 02, 2009 3:01 pm

This is an enhancement request.

When joining a game, you are presented with pages and pages of games. It would be nice to be able to filter the list (i.e. only show me team/individual; freestyle/turn; Mapxxx; etc.) so that you can quickly find the type of game you want to play.

You can use the Game Finder link from the Game Menu on the left to apply exactly those kind of filters.

Join-Game Filters

Postby Dysthymia on Tue Apr 19, 2011 4:12 pm

Concise description:
  • Filters for the Join Games Menu

Specifics/Details:
  • Allow people to sort between the various game options
  • Example: Only showing Sequential Games and no Free-Style Games
  • A list of all possible options with check boxes indicating which are acceptable to show on your Join Games list would be preferred.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • Saves times searching for preferred game types
  • Eliminates long lists of the same game type if you have no interest
  • Ease for the player

Try the Game Finder. It does this already.

FIlter for Trench games

Postby nietzsche on Sun Apr 22, 2012 3:16 pm

Trench games require a COMPLETE DIFFERENT STRATEGY. A lot of players are farming with them. PLEASE MAKE A FUCKING FILTER, a check box in preferences that allows you to complete ignore these kind of games. I keep joining them by mistake. Or put in red bold letters TRENCH in the game list

I know I can use Game Finder but this is not practical. A check box in preferences and a modified sql sentence is not hard to implement.

False. Game Finder is very practical.

It's not anyone's fault except yours that you join games you don't like. And throwing in the fact that people might be farming (which is a complete lie because NRs are blocked from trench games) to try and get your way isn't helping your suggestion in any way.

Also, thanks for duplicating a suggestion: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=168868

Ok. Let me explain it.

I'm always joining 1vs1 speed games, specially 1-2 min games. I'd start my own but I'm very absent minded and I might forget them. So I click in Join A Game, then in Join Speed Games and go to the bottom of the list looking for any 1vs1 in a map I know. And if i see one I join it quickly because they get filled quite quickly. I do this again and again waiting for a 1vs1 to be there in the bottom of the list to join.

With the trench games, WHICH REQUIRE A COMPLETE DIFFERENT STRATEGY, this habit of mine sucks balls. I keep joining them without really wanting and lose all of them.

Going to game finder and click in all those checkbox every 10 secs is not going to work for me. I believe there is a game finder save option in the tools and enhancements forum but I don't think its the best way, having to install third party ext.

Of course most people will take lickattack side and say game finder is good enough, but think about, am I the only one hating trench games? what's next, tetris risk? It sounds ridiculous but you get the point. Please allow us to ignore Trench games.
