Initial troop deployment

Postby gavin_sidhu on Mon Jun 12, 2006 1:32 am

The first turn can often make or break your game in conquer club and it is very fustrating when you start to put three men on one country, attack a neighbouring country (which has 3 men) and lose 5 men attacking, especially when your opponent loses nothing. I think this issue needs to be adressed because if this happens, you find yourself a card down throughout the game and very weakened. All the suggestions i can come up with to fix this problem dont seem to be very good, but ill list them here anyway.

* Rig the dice in favour of the attacker for the first turn
* Have some territories which have 4 men at the start of the game

If you have better ideas put them here.

This is a game of chance. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Not a game of guaranteed winning attacks that gain you cards to use.

As has been said before, you can also try stop pressing the attack button. Once you have less than 4 armies on the country its in your best interest to stop attacking until the next turn unless you absolutely have to get that card/country. Below that point your chance of a successful attack only goes down.

Also, having more cards doesn't necessarily mean that you're better off either. If someone doesn't get a combo until 5 cards, but another guy gets a set after missing one the first turn, the second guy is better off (in the short-term at least). Its chance which determines what cards you get too. Even more so in a Flat Card game where what card set you get determines value.

You can also wait until the other players played their turn (in non-sequential maps). Chances are that there will be countries with 1 troop on them. easy to kill.

However, you also run the risk of them wiping you off of choice territories.

being one card down is often an advantage in my opinion. in an escalating game i will often deliberately not attack a territory 1 turn so that my sets are worth the most armies.
