First off, I don't think it should be the norm for all large army battles. As was stated, sometimes it's nice to stop attacks, move to a different area, and start again. Also sometimes with large armies I like to weaken a certain area, but not take it over specifically in that turn. Might be neat for an option, but I don't think I would use it, at least until I knew the game was won in the last turn.

I'm afraid a long vertical list would simply be too much for the game window, and it would be hard to follow the flow of the of the battle with a giant interjection of dice rolls. Also think how people usually post the game window information, that would make them huge, and unnecessarily long. I think a simply horizontal list might be the best option, unless there is another idea floating out there on how to do it.
(I.E. Dice roll: Attacker: 4 2 6 / Defender: 3 4, Attacker: 2 3 1 / Defender: 1 5, etc). I think that may even be hard to read, but it seems like a better option than the vertical list.
Edit: Popups are annoying, and many people have them disabled. I know I do. I wouldn't want to just enable them for this.
