counting opponents cards [Done]

Postby glide on Fri Nov 17, 2006 5:34 pm

if there's a way to see how many cards other players have, I haven't found it. Also, it would be nice to know how much the next sets worth.Yes, I've checked FAQ's. thanx

Counting Cards

Postby Scarus on Fri Nov 17, 2006 5:40 pm

You probably saw it, but just didn't know what you were looking for.

What you need is the "Grease Monkey Script"

Card Count / Cash In Value

Postby JLeviathan on Thu Nov 23, 2006 1:09 am

Im sure these have been suggested before but as a rookie my initial suggestions would be:
It would be nice to know how many cards each player had at any given time - information you would know in the board version. It is critical information when you are moving big armies or going for the take out.
Also, it would be really, really nice to know what the next cash in is worth for escalating games. This is also critical information and is also information that would readily be available in the board version.

Just my 2 cents,

This was the first thing I was looking for when I joined the site as well.

Check out Tr0y's grease monkey script which gives card counts, army counts and even a strength rating (it doesn't include any continent bonuses you would be recieving)- if you need more info search a few related threads and if you still can't find it feel free to ask.

You can find Tr0ys script as well as several other user made add ons that are quite helpful here: http://72.3.139.99/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8801. For future reference, that is the sticky thread at the top of the General board.

card counts

Postby longboreder on Sun Dec 03, 2006 6:30 am

i have to agree with JL and other posts on this topic, knowing opponents card counts and next turn in value should be part of the basic setup, available to all players.

the 'download mozilla/download greasemonkey/figure out why it doesn't work' thing shouldn't be forced on every member, not be able to get greasemonkey to work is frustrating and the manual tracking is killing me. :x

card count, etc.

Postby glide on Sun Dec 03, 2006 12:34 pm

I agree with Longboreder....the scrollin' to count cards and determine sets value is a pain in the butt, and altho I have mozilla/firefox/greasemokey and who knows what the hell else now showing on my left hand border when I flash up this thing....I don't know how to actually make it work for me. I have temporarily given up......even my frickin' avatar's tired!

If you have firefox, or can install firefox, then getting the greasemonkey script installed and working should be really simple. I was regularly using an internet cafe and had the installation of greasemonkey and troy's script down to about a 20 second procedure.

1) Go to: http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/
2) Click on 'Install Greasemonkey'
3) Select 'Install' from the resulting dialogue.
4) Restart firefox
5) Go to the script: http://personal.ecu.edu/tnt1202/conquerclub.user.js
6) Select 'Install' from the resulting dialogue. (or perhaps at the top of the screen depending on your version of firefox).

And that should be it.

If you for some reason can't get firefox, then my method in such situations is to copy and paste the entire game log into notepad.

Then search down the page for 'Player gets a card' and count the number of matches. Then search back up the page for 'Player cashed' and take away three cards for each cash.

The only complication is if the player has eliminated another player, but then you can use the same method to work out how many that player had when he was killed.

I won't say it's simple, but it's workable.

I agree with Longboreder scrolling the game log to count cards and determine sets value is painfull and time consuming, though is not a task that needs skill other than simply counting :-). I fell a bit stupid when i'm forced to prove my counting skills after so many years in this planet :-).

That isn't something you necessarily know playing the board version. My friends had this argument last week; the rule book doesn't say you have to tell or show people how many cards you have. In the board version, you have to remember.

But since the information is available in the game log and can be found out just with some counting, I guess you might as well have the site give that information to you.

If you have troy's script installed then it should just work straight away.

i.e. if you go into your games you should see a card count in brackets beside each player's name, and below the map there should be a table detailing everyone's army and territory totals.

If not... then maybe check (by right-clicking clicking on the monkey's head and selecting 'manage user scripts...') that the Conquer Club script has http://*conquerclub.com* in its included pages.

if installing the greasemonkey script was that easy, i wouldn't be posting here! :x

Designed for the casual gamer, playing Conquer Club is not a time consuming process.

i bought a new laptop recently and gave up after an hour of downloading and trying to get the greasemonkey script to work. so i went back to manually counting.

Bishop, you are right that the board game makes no mention of this. However, in the board game you can verbally ask a player how many cards they have, you can see them take a card, you can track other players cards, and since the game takes about 3-6 hours to play it's much easier to remember who has what. i have games on this site over a month long where i take 1 turn a day. i'm not going to remember how many cards each player has every time i log in. Since experienced players can electronically track cards, why not give that power to every player who joins CC?

Could we at least have a poll:

should the # of cards each player has, and the next turn-in value, be on the game page available to every player:

- yes, every player should automatically have it when joining CC

- no, new members need to find the forum thread where Tr0y's program is located, download mozilla, install mozilla, download greasemonkey, download Tr0y's grogram and troubleshoot problems on every computer they play CC from

OK, now I see where it works :) I thought there would be like some type of popup telling me info and what not. I was wondering where all the extra stat stuff came from, LOL...thanks a lot for the info!! :) Glad it worked the first time for me lol

A box should have popped up that had a button that said install. Did you click that?

Below I have taken screenshots of exactly how install the Greasemonkey add-in. After you install Greasemonkey, YOU MUST RESTART Firefox. Until you restart, it is NOT installed yet. Also, when you add the Conquer club...make sure it reads "http://*conquerclub.com* You must have the '*'.

When you open firefox and you see a monkey face in the bottom right of the screen, you know Greasemonkey was installed correctly. If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me.

Nicely done WDG. Does that help longborder? I guess there could be some differences in windows and OSX though.

actually lol...disregard the last picture. If the script wont come up with an install screen, save it to wherever. Go to Tools, Greasemonkey, New user script. From there, just go to wherever you saved the script file and double click on it. From there, it should work fine :) Although the whole Mac configuration might be throwing it off.
