Playing risk has been a favorite pastime for me as a kid.
I must have enjoyed over 1200 games of risk while growing up...winters are long up here in my Alaska (having to stay indoors).
Played many more games while in the military and throughout my adult life.
Risk does get old!
Being forced (ordered) to play Risk while in the military, I experimented (Variant Risk).
Allowing Defender withdrawal from Battle was popular (it does work).
But the most popular was when I merged a game of Fortress America and Risk together. ''Fortress Risk.''
The game (basic) of Risk was never to be played again...Thank GOD
From that point on Everybody wanted to join in and nobody (sergeant) ever ordered me to play Risk (basic) again.
''Fortress Risk'' included; Lasers, bombers, helicopter, tanks, transports...Sound complicated..its not.
The only difference was the Dice.
Each unit had its own dice (6, 8, 10 sided)
Crazy thing is, the basic unit (6 sided dice) was still king (most useful piece on the board).
Up until six month ago I haven't played a game of risk for over 20 years.
CC is Doing something right, I keep coming back...despite this game being so frustrating and annoying!
Although, I no longer look forward doing my turn.
My suggestion: incorporating 7,8, sided dice into the game.
Whether it be part of the game board, neutrals, Bots, Card, player, etc.
