Is this a sound strategy?

Postby riped01 on Mon Jul 27, 2020 3:37 pm

Hey all,
Newbie CC player here...

I am in this game https://www.conquerclub.com/game.php?game=20155789 and I noticed that Team 4 already lost a partner, but the other teammate is doing well. I decided to look at the games these 2 players have in common and it seems like (I am not sure) its a strategy these guys have is to have a teammate throw over almost all troops over to another teammate for, what seems to me, an early head start.
So - to my fellow CCers, in your opinion, is this a good strategy? Pitfalls?

Thanks,
R

It's a pretty standard strategy in 2v2. Not so much in the 8 player games. It's especially not a good idea in escalating though.

It's dumb in no card too. Now every round the other teams are getting twice as many guys before bonuses.

Ideally you don't actually let anyone die.

Generally in no spoils games (which is not this game) it is easier to set up 1 player in your team before the other one. As mentioned, as long as he survives you collect your +3 in territcount bonus.

let's be real here - one guy is new, one guy hasn't ever gotten himself over 1907 points in almost 1,000 games. safe to say that it's a poorly employed strategy and it isn't working for them...

In this particular case, one teammate isn't taking the other one out. one player is purposely missing turns in the game so the other player is given all the territs when he times out after 3 misses (and therefore a big bonus drop from territ count.) It's a weird feature of the game I'm never fully understand why it existed.

but presumably after this happened:
2020-07-24 06:51:50 - yellowjesus was kicked out for missing too many turns

his teammate 'heavyset' went from owning 12-18 territs, to suddenly owning 30ish territs and getting a massive drop. Does that sound about right?

I vaguely remember a case like this a while ago, but i thought it was ruled as 'against the rules' at the time. But maybe I'm wrong as a few other much older timers have already weighed in suggesting it's a legal startegy.

I see! Thanks guys for breaking it down for me. It was jarring to see so many territories turn like that at once so early in the game so I just had to ask. Mookiemcgee, that must be it. The game has progressed a bit quicker now that yellowjesus isn't playing anymore.

That play would never work against top notch players.

It was a pretty dumb move, if it was intentional. =)

Mookie, I do think intentional deadbeating is against the rules. Pretty sure I remember when that feature of territories passing to a teammate was introduced. It was done to help the remaining player stay in the game, and not for people to use as a dumb strategy. But, there isn't really an advantage to doing it, unless of course the game has a win condition and trench. They would also be counting on catching the other team off guard.

People that posted before you said it's legal to mainly deploy on one player in a team.
No one was talking about deadbeating so that your teammate get your troops.
OP didn't mention deadbeating.

Intentional deadbeating is forbidden anyway.
But in the vast majority of cases, when someone deadbeat in a team it isn't intentional, simply because as it as been said before, this isn't smart strategy and it does not work. So people don't do that.

I guess none of the people helping before me checked the log haha. It doesn't 'appear' intentional to me just looking at the log, but there was def a deadbeat.

Next question... is yellowjesus related to Owen?

Ah, so if this was intentional - I am supposed to report this? What I am getting is intentional deadbeating is a no-no, accidental is frowned upon, but, life happens. I think, in my case, it is hard to prove. But, it is good to know that this is a thing that could happen. Besides, it kinda spiced up the early game. ^_^

If you want to report it then pm riskllama to do so. You'll need to send him screenshots of the full log which IIRC each need to be sent in a separate message.
