@Tal Agree with Samlen, Team Rocket were trainers. Regardless of their weirdness in the TV show, in the games Team Rocket actually had Pokemon and battled you with them.

I don't get at all how many people are responding to MM. There's just zero evidence to suggest that it is a scum tell. It's pretty weird that people are concluding anything alignment-indicative about it, this early in the game.

@Nark There's 26 players in this game. Of course it's not 23 town versus 3 mafia. But I don't see how you could rule out a more balanced game with like six or seven members of Team Rocket.

Nark - I think your assessment of the situation is unjust and unreasonably harsh. I do believe Wing's rules quote was tongue in cheek, afterall he quoted that rule to the mod of the game. He wasn't acting like a mod to anyone, he was directly sassing the mod for spamming his own 'no spam!' game. Also, your point that "The posts around it have no bearing on my point" doesn't stand, as your initial accusation against wing included "Posting about spam without posting anything else is real great if you want to look like you are participating without actually doing anything. " when, as wing himself has shown, he DID in fact post 'something else' besides that spam remark.
I'm actually surprised by some of the aggression going on so far. Jeeze, leave the dramatics for the girls pls.

Now, I know some people are against game speculation, but I'm going to do just that anyway. If you have a problem with that, come at me bro!

First up, Team Rocket have to be in this game. They are the iconic team plus this is Indigo league. Done and dusted. But I also think we have multiple scum teams. Now the top members of Team Rocket are Jessie, James, Meowth, Giovanni, Persian and (technically) MewTwo. There are also pokemon of Jessie/James, such as Koffing and ekans. They are the only members that really get any screen time, everything else is generic grunts. I sdon't think all of these were used, however. Personally, I think it's a 4 member scum team with Giovanni likely being a godfather type role. Now to Mewtwo, he was a part of Team Rocket at one point but I don't think he would be on their side for this game. However, I DO think he is in the game and I reckon he would be some sort of third party, or at best a townie with a twist. I'd go for cult or even SK for him. I think cult is much more likely for him though, so I think we should keep that in mind throughout the game.

To answer a qustion; yes, Jessie and James would be trainers. If you catch and battle pokemon you are a trainer.

Anyway my screen is tiny af and I know I haven't responded to something and I can't find it right now, RIP. Will be back to my own computer soon XD

Why is everyone assuming this is based on the TV show version of the game? In the original Game Boy games, the only named member of Team Rocket was Giovanni (IIRC).

Where was Pokemon roles mentioned? I assumed it would all be trainers. Then again my memory of the Indigo series is very fuzzy. I know there've been loads of trainers introduced over the years but perhaps there weren't that many way back then.

Based on these, plus the whole whatever trainer survives wins, I'd agree with the idea that, at the very least, the town is not unified. The contextual evidence that we've been given suggests that the town is filled with 'survivor' like town roles, possibly in control of other 'pokemon' to form multiple town-ish groups. Of course, it wouldn't be Mafia without a Mafia-like group, so I would concur with the idea that Team Rocket is likely within this game, probably as a larger threat than each of the other individual trainers. Mandy mentioned Pokemon battles, so it's quite possible that each Pokemon has it's strengths/weaknesses(based on their type like water/fire/etc). That means that if a Pokemon claims, they will likely be targeted by other pokemon they are weak to. And if a Trainer claims, then the other trainers will go after them. Sooo yeah suicidal claiming indeed. So as far as the 'town' goes, we can really only agree to try and take out Team Rocket first, since they are likely the greatest threat. After that? Probably a chaotic mess of everyone trying to get rid of all the opposing trainers/pokemon. But I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there....

Samlem just claimed trainer too.

I suggest we leave him and Masket to it.

@Fircoal and Skoffin. It looks strongly like Nark went looking for an easy target. He has already stated that he thinks I am inexperienced. Its not what he wrote, its why he chose to attack me. Looks scummmy. Even his case against Masket includes comments about Maskets joke. He appears to have confused us together.

@Fircoal. If you ever have a feeling that Hotshot isnt contributing, dont think just lynch. It is important that you guys know this. Hence my post to draw attention to it.

And this.

Solid post. I'm not voting before MM has another say (which he might already has had - I'm reading and typing). Mitch was quick to back up AD, though. And then some weird 9s. What are those about, Mitch?

Right now, I'm interested in hearing 1) why mitch jumped on Nark's vote and 2) why he wrote those two 9s.

As it stands right now: Anark is looking way more scummy than Wing.

Wing: if he wanted an easy target there were at least 3 others (tim, dakky and you even gave him Hotshot) He didn't he chose you even though his case on Masket is stronger.

Ragian: mitch jumping on a vote is rather typical.. if he agrees with the reasoning he votes without posting a long explanation. So questioning such a vote on day 1 is not gonna get us anywhere (I think).

Mitch: I thought the 9s meant nothing but apparently people are curious so please answer the questions to nip it in the bud.

I agree that masket's post was a slip up, but one made by scum. If I were to change my vote he'd be my second choice.

Skittles stated that "team rocket and whoever leads them" are the obvious baddies. That's an assumption about factions.

As others have since posted, Pokemon is full of factions with Team Rocket from Indigo League being the most well known. I don't think it's necessary suspect to point out who could be the (to me) most obvious baddies of the game.

@ everyone, even though we have people claiming trainer, we shouldn't just let them slide but just see how their posts develop. Anyone can claim anything, doesn't mean they're being truthful.

@ Serbia, I haven't really come to the forums much for years so I don't know how your posting habits are right now. Just seemed suss to me that you were displaying yourself as an aggressive poster.

@ wing & Anark, lol. Anark you're being way too aggressive, though this could just be a diversion tactic to make it seem like they aren't working together?? Idk. I have to see what more people post to be able to come up with some solid ideas.

Well just realised I wasn't getting an email to say there had been posts in the thread. Got a lot to catch up on so won't comment on anyone/anything in particular just yet other than to say that I don't think I've played mafia with anyone here so will take my time forming opinions of folk. I haven't played in over a year and even then not that much so will be a bit rusty.

Because he was someone that used to get picked on a LOT, and then I found out he was really a solid guy who I liked discussing things with.... Remember, a lot of us here used to play a LONG time ago. This game is meant to be fun. If I can't reminisce with old players, what is the point?

I gotta agree with Tim here, Nark. it dopes come across as you trying to say "hey, maybe i'm a trainer too" to MM with that comment. Which in turns make you ssupicious, because I'm wondering if the trainer deal is that they are actually cult or recruiting masons and they can "catch" (recruit) the pokemon in the night phase? And they have to kill the other trainers to win the game (i.e outcompete the others) - seems like the sort of mad stuff Mandy would do.

What?! I have never ever done this in any mafia game and I resent the accusation. Nor have I ever been handed roles geared up specifically to sow confusion in the game. These are lies and slander sir and I won't stand for it.

Maybe my comment was a slip-up but I was only referencing the role talks from a couple pages before. Honestly I don't mind making myself a night-time target possibility because there's so much ambiguity on roles / night actions at this early stage that it's almost impossible to predict what will happen. It sure beats being the Day 1 Lynchee.
A good Town Doc player watching closely combined with some daring posting can be effective in screwing over early game Scum plans.

Nark's point made sense at the time. Nark backs off his own point, and mitch, without any further thought of his own, sticks with it, "because". Then complains that it's difficult to find scum because of "reposting" and Skoffin (who's a girl, btw) writing in red. And then decides to be intentionally vague, for what good reason? Every bit of this sounds scummy to me. "oh, it's so hard to find scum, and red is so difficult to read, and it's easier to just vote based on what someone else used to think, and I'm making mistakes, OR AM I? ;) ;) ;)" What's up with any of that?

Serb, the thing is that Tim, mitch, and sometimes me, are unreadable to the others, due to either wrong grammar, misunderstanding or just being proactive and talking nonsense. So I don't find mitch's comment anything extraordinary, he is like that every game. Tim on the other hand has made some valid points about Nark, though not really readable (also does that in every game). That's all meta of course. "OR AM I" is a different thing though, but I guess it's his way of trying to get more info from others by trying to confuse everyone with an obvious scum tell.

Just for the record, since all of you have been wondering, "THEY" are the people from this forum who thought me those few basic scum tell tactics. I got lynched in my 1st or 2nd game for voting mod or NPC and afterwards THEY told me that is a scum tell.
