Twilight Day 3: The Quick Sacrifice of /

Postby samgrossy on Tue Oct 30, 2012 6:56 pm

Twilight Day 3

The elements, after making the phone call to I.U.P.A.C., decide very quickly to persue the same line of questioning that caused Betiko to be sacrificed to the mass spectrometer the day before. “Tell me what you do here?”

Very quickly, they decide that the element named / seemed to be lying. But who knows if he was really was. Regardless, all the elements seem content to very, very quickly sacrifice /. He really even didn't get a chance to defend himself. There was not even any discussion on how they were to do it. They just seemed to be in too much of a hurry.

Into the mass spec he goes, screaming like Betiko. And they will wait for the results.

Twilight Starts Now. No votes will be counted. Regular discussion can continue until the night scene gets posted around 10 PM.
The lynched party cannot speak.

Periodic Table Mafia [8/13] Night 3: They Got 'Em

Postby samgrossy on Tue Oct 30, 2012 8:36 pm

*Hours pass*

The mass spec’s auto-power-off feature is obvious to the elements as that noise dies. But unlike yesterday, the elements are much more easy going about the results. The elements are very excited to see the results of this lynch, as they sat around waiting for the hours to pass with almost a giddy excitement. They feel they got their man.

The printer finished up, and an element grabs its results. Here’s what each element sees as the paper is passed around:

Analysis:
Image

1 Isotope
Mass of 18.99840322 – 100% abundant.

The signature single isotope of fluorine is a relief to everyone. They caught him. The serial killer of the nonmetals has been caught. He is the only nonmetal that the other nonmetals feel comfortable having destroyed. Even the remaining metalloid mafia breathe a sigh of relief. “Phew,” they all say.

/, Fluorine, Serial Killer has been destroyed

This is one call to I.U.P.A.C. that none of them will mind making. But still, that call needs to wait till morning, and they have to make it through the night.

Night falls now. Please, no talking in the thread until day breaks. PM me any night actions you may have. Day 4 will begin 2 days from now, on November 1 at 10 PM EST.

Periodic Table Mafia [7/13] Day 4: Good Sleep, Bad Start.

Postby samgrossy on Thu Nov 01, 2012 8:43 pm

Day 4: A Good Night’s Sleep. A Bad Day’s Start.

The elements spent the night sleeping well, metalloid and nonmetal alike. Night one disturbed them deeply, the metalloids more than the nonmetals, with the destruction of silicon. If one element destroyed during night one was disturbing, then night two, with two more annihilations, was down right terrifying. The days they could control to an extent (tell that to poor Betiko), but the night was uncertain. But with the destruction of the overreactive fluorine on day three, the elements, all the elements, found a reason to forget some of the pain of the past few days.

They wake up, ready to call I.U.P.A.C. to notify them of the vacancy they created by tossing fluorine into the mass spectrometer. About to pick up the phone, they start to discuss some strategy.
“There are eight of us left,” an element says.

“That means we need five of us to agree again.” Another says

“That won’t take long for us to do that.” A third chimes in.

The phone is dialed and they are almost happy to start the day. Then someone says “Well, it looks like we only need four votes for today. Should take us even less time to reach a decision.” They all turn and look at the element who just spoke up. He explains that there is an element missing. There are only seven of them in the lab. The phone is dropped and nervousness set in as if they never eliminated fluorine. The reality of the situation is that only a serial killer was killed. The metalloid mafia is still wreaking havoc among the remaining nonmetals.

But where is the missing element? The mass spectrometer is showing the last run was fluorine. The flask in the radiation hood is in the same spot. That leaves only one option: The particle accelerator in the basement.

The elements all rush downstairs and realize that their deep, more relaxing sleep last night allowed for one of their own to be thrown into the most devastating elemental killing machines in the building.

The particle accelerator was just finishing its run. An element points to the detector screen that allows for each subatomic particle to be counted.

Quickly one element counts the protons as they fly off into nonexistance, “1, 2, 3, . . . 19, 20, 21, . . . 52, 53, 54. That’s it. 54 protons.”
“Are you positive?” asks another, nearby element.
“Yes. I can confirm that safariguy5, Xenon, Vanilla Townie, has been annihilated.”

It looks like there are two blank spots on the table for the elements to call into I.U.P.A.C. They thought they should be happy at the end of the day yesterday, but this morning has brought them all back to where they were before yesterday’s result.

This begins Day 4. The deadline for Day 4 is 10 PM, November 11. That’s 10 days from now.

With 7 alive, it takes 4 to lynch.

Well, vodean didn't want a / lynch... should we start there? Also, I still have noted that vodean was laying low on day 1. If I get time this weekend, I will look through the lists and compare who is likeliest to be scum and who not.

they shouldnt... and on day 1 in this game i was inactive in all games. then my activity picked up. it had nothing to do with this game. at this point there is little i can do to contribute, however, so you may as well lynch me. my only weapon is my vote. im not getting my usual reads on people.

Wait.. do they? (I dont think they do..)

No mafia kill night 1 implies that they targeted / (the SK) who was saved presumably by his 1 shot bulletproof. he had in turn killed their godfather.

The reason mafia would want to keep SK alive is that 1 remaining goon is outnumbered greatly by town. An SK around can help him thin the town via 2 kills per night instead of 1. Since he knows who the SK is he can push for his lynch once it is down to 4 people which would give him the mafia win. It would be risky as he would have to hope the SK never targeted him.

I already proved that the mafia knew who the SK was on day 3. It's not 100%, but it's the best case for today.

I just don't know.

On the face of it, chuck's logic is pretty good. But like NOS and hippo, I have nagging doubts.

I've been looking at our dwindling town and thinking though. We need four to lynch. Gillipig is almost certainly either totally inactive or scum. If we don't get the goon today, then tomorrow we'll still need four to lynch, but there will only be six of us available to persuade, and if Gilli really is inactive and not scum, he won't even bother showing up to vote, and it will be even harder to put together four votes among five active players.

I think we need to act on the logical case.

Re: Periodic Table Mafia [6/13] Twilight 4: Vodean The Targe

Postby samgrossy on Fri Nov 02, 2012 7:28 pm

Twilight 4: Vodean Makes Himself an Easy Target.

The elements gather to discuss who seems the most metalloid-like. They hope to catch lightning in bottle twice. With even more speed than the previous day, the elements reach the decision to target Vodean. The hope is that since it took very little time to find fluorine, maybe they shouldn’t waste any time to find any remaining metalloids.

Surprisingly, the chosen element puts up very little fight. In the end, he almost walks himself over to the radiation hood and throws himself in. In reality he was escorted by all the elements but he never tried to fight his way free. An element opens to exterior door to the hood. Then the interior door was opened.

Vodean is escorted to the flask that will be his final resting place. He is grounded, his electrons are not hardly moving. It’s a bummer for the elements remaining because his electron cloud is not parting. Damn Shrodinger.

Vodean climbs almost willingly into the flask. The interior and exterior doors to the hood are closed tightly. The hood is turned on. The gamma ray source that will annihilate Vodean has to warm up. Soon it will blast high energy into Vodean’s nucleus and give the characteristic bright line spectrum that is only associated with his element.

Confidently, the elements wait to see if they have reduced the number of metalloids by one.

Periodic Table Mafia [6/13] Night 4: Vodean's Spectra

Postby samgrossy on Fri Nov 02, 2012 8:40 pm

Night 4: Vodean’s Spectra

Unlike when Jonty125 was killed, the elements were prepared for the destruction of Vodean. Even Vodean himself was calm, cool and collected. The gamma source was warm. All they had to do was hit the start button. The remaining six elements have their spectroscopes ready to see the results of the kill. An element hits the “go” button.

All the elements see this:
Image

It’s relatively blurry because almost in unison the elements gasp, losing focus on the spectra. It's obvious to each and every one of the remaining elements. Each one of them now knows that Vodean was Argon, a Vanilla Townie. They have mistakenly destroyed another nonmetal. How many more times can the nonmetals afford to not destroy a metalloid?

Frustrated at their own cockiness, the elements go to sleep, hoping that tomorrow can yield a better result.

Night falls now. Please, no talking in the thread until day breaks. PM me any night actions you may have. Day 5 will begin 2 days from now, on November 4 at 10 PM EST.
