Welcome to a different kind of mafia. One where political intrigue, espionage, and double-dealing play a more pronounced role than usual. Welcome to
Political Mafia. This game is based on an
idea by rishaed, who gave me permission to modify his concept and run with it. Be aware right from the start that the balance may be quite a bit different than you are used to!
The most important difference is that the voting system is modeled after a parliamentary body, and you are its members! The Speaker is the chair of the body and calls the vote to lynch and therefore end the day. The Speaker will be elected by plurality vote at the beginning of the game, and can be moved to a different player by majority vote. A plurality vote to claim the Speaker position will automatically be triggered if the Speaker dies. The Speaker may elect to call the vote at any time they choose, as long as it is at least 48 hours from the start of the day. The Speaker may also opt not to call a vote during the day and allow it expire as normal. Day phases are 10 calendar days and night phases are 2 calendar days (48 hours).
When the Speaker calls the vote, all discussion immediately stops and players may only cast votes. The voting period will last 24 hours after the vote is called. If there is a tie vote for the lynch, all players tied will enter a runoff phase, and players may only vote for those individuals. The runoff phase will last an additional 24 hours. If there remains a tie at the end of the runoff phase, any individuals tied with the most votes will enter an additional runoff round. This will continue until a player is lynched. If two consecutive runoff rounds progress without any players being eliminated from lynch consideration, the day will end with a no lynch.
All lynch votes should be in
bold red font or they will not be counted, and should read like
vote Metsfanmax. All votes for Speaker should be in
bold blue font or they will not be counted, and should read like
vote Metsfanmax for Speaker.
16 players are needed, and this game will tentatively start on July 13 depending on signups and the progress of the official games.
Game rules are standard
except that I am OK with editing posts, under the conditions that (1) you cannot edit a post after anyone else has replied to the thread and (2) you cannot edit a post more than an hour after it has been put up. Rule (1) implies that if you're editing and hit submit, and the warning window comes up showing you that someone has since replied, you must abandon your edit. Violation of these conditions once results in a warning; a second time results in a modkill.
