I'm thinking the map in the top left could make for a neat mario map.

Or maybe I could even incorporate the other maps as well via the way of the green pipes. That could be cool

I mentioned the same idea a while back ago, but after a while to me it didn't seem like a very good idea.

What problems did you come across to make you think it was not a good idea?

HM, I was simply groping for ideas for a map. I looked into it, and saw a map could be made, but then I thought....should it be made? It didn't feel like a map I could fully get behind and support, it was just an idea that crossed my mind.

I might consider making it into a map, the only problem i see right now is with copyrights. Would I have to contact Nintendo, or would I just have to give them credit?

When in doubt about copy right issues, it's always best to contact them.

I loved the idea, and thought of it before, but didn't feel I'd have the graphical skill to do it justice.

As far as I know, Nintendo's policy used to be that non-profit websites/fansites could use any images they liked (used to have a Nintendo fansite... so shoot me), but that commercial websites had to get permission.

i guess it might be a good idea to contact them because its not your site, your ass isn't on the line. With what i have seen come to pass with these large corporations they don't care enough to get into the nitty gritty over something so small. So they'll probably just say we don't give anyone permission, but so long as proper credit is given there shouldn't be a problem.

Yes, they did, years and years ago, but I went onto the Nintendo site just now and here's what I found:

here:

May I use Nintendo games/music/graphics/web site contents?

We appreciate the interest in Nintendo and in all our video game products. To us, it represents a great sign of success and recognition of the Nintendo brand.

"Nintendo" is a registered trademark of Nintendo of America Inc. Nintendo owns extensive intellectual property rights in all of its products, including video game systems, game titles, characters, game software, graphics, artwork, and screen shots. Nintendo also retains rights in content on Nintendo's web sites, including articles, artwork, screen shots and other files. Trademarks and copyrights for third-party games and characters are owned by the companies that market or license those products.

While we are grateful for all the requests for permission to use Nintendo properties, we are not able to grant such requests. We receive thousands of requests and we do not have adequate staffing to review them all. Therefore, our general policy is to decline requests for permission for the use of Nintendo properties.

Although we are not able to grant permission, use of Nintendo's properties without formal permission by Nintendo may still be allowed under the relevant laws of the particular jurisdiction involved. Thus, we encourage you to seek your own legal counsel if you have any questions about whether your particular proposed use is permitted without Nintendo's authorization. Nintendo cannot provide legal advice.

We appreciate your support.

and here:

Can I use pictures or articles from Nintendo's site for my own?

All content on this website, including articles, artwork, screen shots, graphics, logos, digital downloads and other files, may not be used on any other web site, in any publications, in public performances, in connection with any product or service that is not Nintendo's, in any manner that is likely to cause confusion among customers, in any manner that disparages or discredits Nintendo, or in any manner that is otherwise exploitative for any commercial purpose or that otherwise infringes Nintendo's intellectual property rights.

Can I write in and request permission?

Nintendo does not grant permission to individuals to use any content from this website. Because we receive thousands of such requests, our policy is to decline use of our trademarks and copyrights.

Basically the first quote says "No you can't use Nintendo images"(...though in what context it doesn't specify?), and the second says "No you can't use images from this site for a commercial purpose"

...Looks doubtful.

Perhaps you can a 'theme' based off super mario bro's...but also perhaps it may be best to let this idea die.

Maybe you could use something like pipes but change something about them (like color) so they don't look like anything nintendo. Although if you did pipes you would just have another Going Underground map :?

is that a screenshot taken from LunarMagic? Heck, i don't think that software is even "Nintendo friendly" . If it isn't, that just makes that map look like a sissy violation  (i wonder if nintendo knows about it)

Copyright issues aside I think ti would be sweet if they did it level to level and you could only go back and forward a level.
