The Taliban had no involvement in the 9/11 attacks and - in fact - condemned them. But Bush ordered them toppled from power because they refused to extradite leading Al Qaeda leaders from Afghanistan. The U.S. has no existential opposition to a Taliban government in Kabul, provided it does not use its sovereignty to harbor our opponents and it achieves power through legal and peaceful means.
Now - after Bushbama's endless war - Trump and his peace envoy Zalmay Khalilzad have succeeded in securing an agreement with the Taliban. Under it, the Taliban will agree to sever all ties to Al Qaeda, to expel them from territory they control, and to enter into political discussions with the Kabul government. In exchange, the U.S. will withdraw its forces but will retain air assets in the region, outside of Afghanistan, to react in the event of a violation.

Thank you, President Trump, for securing what Bushbama couldn't - peace in our time!
