RFK, Jr. just announced he would withdraw his name from the ballot in states where his candidacy might draw votes from Donald Trump due to the "existential threat" the Democratic Party presents to the future of both American civilization and the survival of the human species, due to its approach to the "core issues" of war, censorship, and health. He will remain on the ballot in other states.
- - Will Remain on Some Ballots: He said he will remain on the ballot in states where he doesn't risk taking votes from Trump and will strategically focus his future campaigning on a target state that might, in the event of a close election, force a tie in the Electoral College.
- Disagrees with Trump: He said that, while he passionately disagrees with Donald Trump on many issues, he does not view Trump as the kind of existential threat to world peace and human civilization of the "pro-war, big money Democratic Party."
- Denounces Neocons: He went on to denounce the "neocons in the White House" for pushing the world "closer to the brink of nuclear exchange than any point since 1962" and that "judging by her bellicose, belligerent speech last night in Chicago, we can assume that a President Harris would be a supporter of this and other neocon measures."
- Spoke with Trump After Assassination, Decided National Unity Front Needed: RFK, Jr. also said that he spoke with Trump within a few hours after he survived the assassination attempt. He proposed to form a national unity front modeled after the unity front between the Republican Party and loyal Democrats during the Civil War.
- Unity Front Will Allow Disagreement on Most Issues, Trump Agrees to Some Concessions: Under the unity front, they would disagree on most issues but they would agree to align on a common policy around war and chronic disease mitigation (noting that "2/3rds of Americans suffer from chronic disease, up from 1% 50 years ago", "70% of Americans are overweight or obese", "18% of American adolescents have fatty liver disease", "25% of American women are on anti-depressants" and Canadian and American adolescents have the earliest puberty rates of any OECD state) which he blamed on "ultra-processed food using chemicals that even Europe has banned" and "unregulated toxic chemicals in industry" and lack of effective fitness programming. He noted that Biden had appointed officials to the FDA who were lobbyists from food conglomerates.
- - [update] Under the terms of the unity arrangement, RFK says a future president Trump will agree not to appoint any food company representatives to the FDA or USDA, and will limit policymaking and regulatory appointments to persons with terminal degrees in a relevant hard science.
- [update] "I am 70 years old and have maybe a decade left to be effective. President Trump has told me he wants this to be his legacy. Joining the Trump campaign will be an extremely difficult sacrifice for me, my wife, and my children. But it is a small sacrifice if there's even a chance of saving our dying nation."
