Wow. I can tell that's gonna be a real unbiased objective view of American history there.

actually, this is one is an attempt to somewhat even out the incredibly biased and very little watched "WE the people" series from the History channel a few months back. Yes, Matt Damon was in it......

besides, what is wrong with celebrating achievements? What you mean by biased?

ok well let's discuss that after it is available to be viewed, and then comment? Micheal Moore has been a busy boy though.

Just wondering if it is possible that maybe this show will be an accurate portrayal? possibly un-biased?

That's got to be the most homoerotic trailer I've seen for a long time. Is it a parody?

yes, a parody

America was not built by hand
America did not invent the engine
America did not invent the light bulb
America did not harness electricity
America did not invent the typewriter
America was not the first to land on the moon

It's all a parody. Seriously Symm, which parts did you find a parody?

Would you be happier If America did not celebrate it's achievements? Perhaps Americans should just watch anti-American Programming constantly?

It was quite homoerotic, wasn't it? A bunch of big, sweaty men with their big tools together like that...

Why the fixation on my ass?

And seriously- did you watch the trailer? Bunch of rugged men sweating it out, only two women turn up, shots of explosions and rocket launches. Ends with a massive orgasm.

No? Really?

Edited, after watching again, I'd forgotten the oil derrick bursting all over the ecstatic dude.

At some point this stopped being subtext. It's just text.

You continue to see what you want to see. I saw slavery, The contribution of Asians, The issue of native Americans, and even the Mexican army (remember the alamo? no?) You dont know how to view it. Check it out though if you have the history channel. Obama is doing the introduction

Wow- I found the homoerotic aspects to be a parody.

If you want to debate the rest, I can only tell you that I don't think that America was built by hand, but rather through a series of geological processes.
I don't know what you mean when you say that Americans invented the engine, as "engine" is pretty vague. I'm guessing you don't mean siege engines, for example.
Claims for the invention of the lightbulb are all over the place, and I'm not even gonna start on that one.
Allesandro Volta, an Italian, is as far as I know, was the first person to harness electricity with his early batteries, but that's up for debate too.
Typewriter, there are some doubts, but sure- I'll give you that.
Land on the moon- well the Soviets managed a crash landing, but certainly Americans were the first men on the moon.

But anyway- that wasn't really my point. Yeah- more the homoerotic stuff.

I'm sure the show will be great, but the trailer is pretty homoerotic.

If you want a serious criticism of the programme based on the trailer, I'd just point out that it seems to view the history of America as solely post-colonial. History, apparently, only started after the Europeans arrived.

after viewing part 1, your statement is shown to be way off. I did not notice bias any which way. and most of the first hour was about england, spain, and france and even africa. the entire segment was pre-America, PRE-VICTORY over England

You should all know that the 10 lost tribes built America, but then they got lost again . . . meh, anyway that's what the Mormons say. Hey! I think it's time for another Mormon thread!

Im watching it right now. I love good ole American History, and the History Channel provides the most random information ever sometimes that makes me laugh. I'm excited!.... Mormon Thread? Why not make a segment on the History Channel for it and have one of those really deep, dramatic voices narrate it? :D

I'm not sure how my statement was "way off"- I was pretty clear that I was interested in the trailer, and what it was showing. Heads up though- England, Spain and France are European countries. I'm not gonna get into a pissing contest on this one, but I do feel I should clarify what I meant- I had serious doubts (entirely based on the trailer) that the series would not really deal with the civilisations of the current US before colonisation. I'd be interested to know if it did, or if it took the "history was imported" line.

And anyway, let's face it, any successful revolution against English rule is at best pyrrhic.

omg whatever we are number one! omg sooooo #1 omg omg :breathe: you can't touch us we'll bomb you! USA! USA! omg omg

that is homo-erotic, and the correct term you may want to use in the future...

Nationalistic Chauvinism

that I am most certainly not, nor is the trailer, IMO. are you thinking about checking it out the show at all? You may be unaware of all the land-owning blacks pre-1776, and blacks serving and being paid the same wage in the continental army, and taking part in the protest that led to the boston massacre. I wish you would take the time to look at my country again, from an un-pre-biased view, because I can see, IMO, everything you are not aware of when you are getting all chippery.
