So, this detail is forgotten in the rush to determine who committed these killings and why:

I doubt there was an armed security guard in this meeting, BEFORE the bank opened for business, GaryDenton. The killer, as a bank employee, likely KNEW this and this factor was LIKELY part of his plan. And, to reiterate, I doubt that the presence of an armed guard will prevent ALL shootings and killings. I will argue that such a presence will diminish the LIKELIHOOD of such killings.

I never see follow-up of these kids getting arrested… though I presume they did.

There’s a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE between a full grown 16-18yo assaulting a teacher, and a 4th grader “hitting a teacher” as she breaks up a fight. First of all one hit is different than an outright attack. There’s the size/risk of injury delta. Then you wonder, did the kid actually try to hit her… or was it a swing at the other kid?

I’m not saying the kid shouldn’t be punished… but it seems like there is a wide disparity in punishments between different schools.

The right way for the teacher to handle it would be to (a) calmly demand the student voluntarily surrender the Switch, (b) if he refused to do so, use a stern and clear voice to demand he voluntarily surrender it, (c) if he still refused, order him expelled from the class, (d) if he refused to leave, call the police to have him physically removed and admonished for trespassing. She can't just go grab-handing the property of a 17 year old.

ConfedSS puts too much blame on Big Pharma. I think many who takes the prescriptions for drugs made by Big Pharma are because these people want to be medicated, and not because of coercion. Now it can be argued, to a small extent, that advertisements create or enhance the desire, but ULTIMATELY, the individual makes the choice to take the Drug or NOT. That sounds like Free Will, to me.

I tend to agree with Confed here. Largely this tendency to medicate anything and everything that might happen to a person is largely driven by Big Pharma. Big grants from Big Pharma drive the research agenda at the universities. Big bribes from Big Pharma drive the recommendations made by the AMA and other professional organizations. Rank-and-file doctors rarely question the recommendations from above. Teachers and school guidance counsellors are just following the recommendations.

I do wonder why Confed opposes this. Confed claims to be a conservative. The ethos of conservatism is that corporate profit is the only yardstick of success. People only have value as loyal employees who work from dawn to dusk, never complain and never ask for a raise. By the conservative yardstick, Big Pharma is doing a magnificent job and raking in ENORMOUS profits. So why would you oppose it?

I asked why Blame Big Pharma when there is enough blame for other factors. You tend to over-simplify things in many of your ideas.

If I had a simple solution or two, as you tend to offer (without understanding nuances and the "Bigger Picture"), I would be advocating them.

I will say that the break up of the nuclear (traditional) family is a HUGE factor in many of the problems that our children experience. Children need both Parents involved and engaged in their lives, and hopefully living in the same house. Other adults can help (BUT too many grandparents take on too many Parental roles, imo). Research shows that having at least ONE Adult in the lives of a child has a big impact. Two adults is better. There are too many single family household and placing ALL that burden on one parent is TOO MUCH. IT used to be that parents "Stayed together" i.e., married, until children were 18 years old (or so). Too often these days a parent does not stay around long enough.
