Yankee is something (central / eastern) southerners call northerners as a disrespectful slur. Is that what you're shooting for? Well played....
Have fun!

And in Vermont, a Yankee is somebody who eats pie for breakfast.

Yankee, a native or citizen of the United States or, more narrowly, of the New England states of the United States (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut). The term Yankee is often associated with such characteristics as shrewdness, thrift, ingenuity, and conservatism. It was applied to Federal soldiers and other Northerners by Southerners during the American Civil War (1861–65) and afterward.

Plus he specifically said he was going through some arguably Yankee states. I don't know where the actual Yankee colony was, but Vermont might well be the epicenter.According to Wikipedia, Elwyn Brooks White wrote:

Usually to go to the East coast I would drive through Quebec, but this time, just to switch it up, going to go the American route -- through Saratoga Springs, Concord NH, Bangor Maine, etc.
Won't have a lot of time for sightseeing (it's 14 hours driving time over two days) but I've never been to New Hampshire or Maine before, and only briefly been to Vermont, so I would like to see at least one point of interest.
Given the constraints, if you could only see ONE thing in Vermont, New Hampshire, or Maine, what would it be?

In Oregon, amongst Pacific northwesterners, I've never heard the term used in 60 years to reference any Americans. Just my southern buds call me that as a funny slur.
Thems the facts...ok?
