Although you could point out that Bush started a completely illegal war that killed 500,000 civilians, Obama fomented two civil wars then ran away from them, Trump abandoned the Kurds, threatened to leave NATO and assassinated a world leader etc, and the Western Europeans just continued to clap and say ‘more’, so Biden abandoning a few Afghans to be shot in a ditch is probably unlikely to lead anyone to dramatically rethink their relationship with the US.

Russian has maintained its embassy throughout the Taliban takeover, however, today sent Tu-134s from the 353rd Special Purpose Aviation Regiment to begin airlifting all Russian citizens out of the country due to a rapidly deteriorating situation.

British and Australian authorities are warning a "severe" attack on the airport is "imminent" and their citizens must flee. The evacuation will end in 100 hours and the thousands who will be left behind will be on their own to walk thousands of miles overland across the Hindu Kush and the tribal territories of Pakistan. Any survivors of the journey who are able to make it to the embassies in Islamabad, however, will be be eligible for airlift back to Europe.

There is “very, very credible” intelligence that Islamic State militants are planning an imminent attack on those gathering at Kabul airport in an attempt to flee Afghanistan, British armed forces minister James Heappey told BBC on Thursday. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said on Wednesday that the situation in the region remains “volatile”, with the advice being for British citizens and other evacuees to find a safe location and await further advice.

“The security situation in Afghanistan remains volatile. There is an ongoing and high threat of terrorist attack,” the FCDO’s updated travel advisory reads.

“Do not travel to Kabul Hamid Karzai International Airport. If you are in the area of the airport, move away to a safe location and await further advice,” it says.

Kabul airport is currently being defended and run by the U.S., which has 5,800 troops on the ground. However, they are dependent on Taliban support which leaves the international troops vulnerable.

On Thursday, Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Marise Payne, said: “There is an ongoing and very high threat of a terrorist attack”.

The U.S. has also asked its citizens in Afghanistan not to travel or gather at the Kabul airport “because of security threats outside the gates”.

BREAKING: With thousands of Americans still stranded by Biden in Afghanistan, an attack has just got underway at Hamid Karzai International Airport to neutralize the facility ahead of the Taliban's August 31 deadline to Biden to finish his retreat. Initial indicators are that a single suicide bomber hit a crowd of evacuees at one of the entry points who were following Biden's advice to come to the airport. The attack may be the first stage in a larger series of assaults intended to overwhelm the airport's defenders.

UPDATE: Sky News is reporting "this could be the end of the airlift." There have been no American fatalities in Afghanistan in more than three years. That just changed under Biden. Meanwhile, more than 1500 Americans, and thousands more Europeans, are now on their own.

It's estimated 1,000 Americans will have to be abandoned, leading to a hostage crisis 20-times worse than Iran 1979.

Two explosions ripped through crowds seeking evacuation, followed by an assault by Islamic State gunmen

More than 100 people were killed, including at least 13 U.S. service members and 90 Afghans, at the Kabul airport Thursday when two blasts ripped through crowds trying to enter the American-controlled facility, disrupting the final push of the U.S.-led evacuation effort.

A suicide bomb attack at the airport’s Abbey Gate was followed by an assault by gunmen, officials said. Another bomb attack took place nearby, at a hotel outside the airport, officials said. Eighteen U.S. service members were injured, the Pentagon said.

The attack marked the deadliest day for the U.S. military in Afghanistan since 2011, and came just five days before the Biden administration’s deadline for the complete military withdrawal from the country. The military expects more attacks, Marine Corps Gen. Frank McKenzie told reporters.
