This year, the answer is still 'no.'
In fact, many Christians are not doing much of anything for Christmas either. They are as broke as anybody.

Why bump a perfectly dead thread?

Even the V does not put you beyond life and death.

Last year my wife was sick so we celebrated festivus instead

but in scandinavia we usually celebrate Jul (aka Yule or whatever its called in britain/mainland europe). It´s the old pre-christian festivity. We didn´t even bother to change the name to something more christian - just added that latino thing with little baby jesus.. but we still worship satan as well ;)

The guy riding across the sky is a mix of Thor and the weird little elves called nissar/tomtar/vättar who were not always so nice (depending on how kind you had been during the year).
Modern "christmas" is in many ways closer to old germanic paganism than christianity.
I guess extreme hardcore catholics should be careful about some of the aspects of "christmas".. worshipping another god - go straight to hell! [-X

Foolish boy. To believe you can conquer death by mere strength... no, a far greater sacrifice is needed for that, in order not to die, you must lose your life.

Unless you're crazy religious, you don't celebrate it for JC.
You celebrate it for time with your family and friends.

Yeah.

Like I quite got into Thanksgiving this year, while being very cynical about the supposed basis of it.
It's a good time for family stuff, and counting your blessings generally, without relating them to some bunch of religious fanatics .

Hardcore Catholics don't celebrate it in a "modern" way. It sickens us.

But kudos on at least having a firm conviction in what you are celebrating being a direct relation to the ways of your ancestors. I disagree with you but at least respect it. It's the namby-pamby latté leftist "moolti-kooltural tolewance" bullcrap I can't tolerate.

I found the Washington State Capitol Building Christmas Battle to be humorous this year. There is now a nativity scene, a freethinkers' sign (which was stolen and thrown in a ditch, har har), a Festivus decoration, and I believe a Hannukah decoration all in the building now to represent diversity and equal rights. What a load of crap, eh?

Fuckin' A. It's all this damned pansy-talk about "oooh teh equal wights for teh ethnic pplz!" bollocks from clipboard wielding PC police who want to ban Christmas Nativity Scenes from schools and insist we all learn about diversity by having Hanukkah whatsits and all that crap left right and centre.

No, our culture is not "equal rights" with anyone else's, it's our culture in our country and the others can f*ck off if they don't like it.

We're a country with Christian roots and I'm damned if I'll have anything in the goddam town square but a Christmas Tree and a Nativity Scene. And before some bespectacled lisping bureaucrat gives me a mantra about Pagan symbology in this that and the other, I don't give a flying f*ck, it's traditional, and yes, we have Germano-Celtic Pagan traditions, and we're jolly well proud of that heritage.

Abdul's just going to have to grow up and suck it up.

Merry fuckin' Christmas.

F*ck that noise.
I don't care how this country or any other was founded by Christians. Where are they now? Dead, so f*ck 'em and their stupid religions. And screw all that BS about how Christians stole pagan crap. No one cares about that either. Especially Christians. If they did care they'd stop eating babies or whatever.
The fact is, I OWN those buildings, I own the town square, and I own the schools; so long as I'm paying taxes. And yet you want to take my money and then say that my voice doesn't count? This is not a free-for-all-survival-of-the-biggest. This is America; we're all on the same team. So don't make me burn down the town hall.

We do not need to do the 60s all over again...
And for the French, that was like the 1910s or something?

Well, no. The buildings belong to society. A society founded by Christian Germano-Celts, in the case of yours and mine. So, the Christmas tree and the Nativity scene stay, regardless of the nauseating ideological dysfunctions of the 60s and Socialist masonic Republicans.

If the society-founding germano-celts wish to pay for public displays of symbols, phallic or otherwise, they are of course free to do so. We all live in free and equal societies and do no not discriminate against the vitally challenged simply because they might not have a pulse or a recognisably human shape anymore.

Well, no, plenty of people who don't sit around stamping forms and drinking lemon tea over the Guardian during breaks actually would quite like to see these displayed in public areas and happily pay for them. But then they get lawsuits from the PC police for discwiminating against ickle Jews and Muslims.

We're not a society of Christian Germo-Celts anymore. And the Christian religion itself is dying.

Either my symbles go up too, I'm free from taxation, or be prepared for a fight. I'm not going to pay into, or service a society that doesn't give a damn about me.
Which was my point about the 60s.

Well, taxes aren't something you choose to pay if you like a society. I don't really see why a society that buys into politically correct masturbation so shamelessly is such a great thing as opposed to one that pays attention to tradition.

Exactly. And if my home refuses to give me my just dues then I should rebel. There aren't enough Christian soldiers here to defend this country. So the Jews and other religious minorities can have their say too.

Are you trying to say that this is all about tradition though??? :-s

If Jews and other minorities don't like it, I cordially invite them in the spirit of the season to get lost.

Or do you want an invitation first? :P

Suck it up, Nappy. Traditions don't always stay the same, they all eventually change.

If i have to put up with seeing crappy christmas trees and santa hats and little baby jesus' everywhere, you can put up with seeing a dreydle or three decorating the town.
