That is what is wrong. Someone who supports the likes of Man Utd and Barca rather than their local team of, say, Torquay Utd, Ventforet Kofu or FC Levadia is not a true, or best, fan. You can be as global as much as you like, you can laugh your arse off as much as you like, but that will never make you a
better fan than me.
whats the difference between supporting a big club or a little club?, the fans are still passionate about their team and care about the club, so the small town mentality you have really doesnt apply to football imo.
I think his point is that being a fan of a top global club is easier. If you support Man Utd or Arsenal or Barca or Milan, there is all this glory, you win more often than you lose, you never have to worry about relegation or a bad run of form. A bad season for a Top 4 (i guess it's 6 now...) is missing European play and not winning a cup. If you support Barca, you're disappointed if you didn't win at least 4 trophies.
Compare that to supporting Torquay, or Levadia, with crowds you can count on your hands. An example here in the United States would be the New England Revolution, or worse, a lower-league club, where you don't even get to hope for promotion. Glory there, albeit smaller, is just as sweet, because you feel that you were an intimate part of the success.
tl;dr: Support your local football club. Unless your local club got taken over by Red Bull, like mine...
EDIT: Oh, first post. Hi guys!
