In today's Board of Supervisors meeting, the Supervisors indicated they plan to pass it in June, though it might be slightly modified to bring down the total payout below the initial $5 million lump sum and 250 years of $97,000 annual per person payments.

Tuesday’s unanimous expressions of support for reparations by the board do not mean all the recommendations will ultimately be adopted, as the body can vote to approve, reject or change any or all of them. A final committee report is due in June.

In other news, the city announced it doesn't currently have the resources to make any progress on this thing ---

San Francisco's streets are so filthy that at least one infectious disease expert has compared the city to some of the dirtiest slums in the world. Dr. Lee Riley, an infectious disease expert at the University of California, Berkeley, told NBC Bay Area that dried feces can release dangerous viruses, such as rotavirus, which is the most common cause of diarrhea in infants and children worldwide. "The contamination is ... much greater than communities in Brazil or Kenya or India," says Riley, who researched health conditions caused by extreme poverty in some of the world's poorest regions. Street conditions in San Francisco are so bad that a Chicago-based medical association recently decided to cancel future events in the city, including a major convention that normally hosts more than 15,000 attendees.

The Federal Gov’t can pass stuff and run in deficit mode (at least for while.. probably not forever).

States and especially Cities have different rules and they can’t just ‘print money’.

If this somehow passed they would have to get funding for it… and they wouldn’t be able to get that funding.
Any bonds they tried to issue would be worthless. Credit raising would tank. Their cost of funding would increase.

The city would have to go into receivership and be taken over by the State.
The first thing “new management’ would do would be to repeal this.

The idea they are actually even talking about this, let alone actually considering it, is ridiculous and dangerous.

If it passes, and people don’t get their checks there will be riots.
Even if it passed and there was money there would be riots.

Many people will just hear “$5million Reparations” and won’t pay attention to details.
So if they saw some people getting checks and they don’t…
