There is no seedings, just a 'random' draw with 8 teams.

Plus you realize that if City win 3-1 they're through, right? I see one of two things happening, Barce score and early goal and City fall apart or City beat Barce by one goal and get knocked out anyway. Can see them winning 1-2 with Ageruo back.

Plus Dortmund are better than Bayer L, league positions can be false. Plus if you're not used to playing CL it's even harder, look at City... hell look at Utd in the 90s, took them ages to work out how to play in Europe.

Well as far as I know leverkussen has the same CL experience than the PSG in the last years. The dortmund team that became champion 2 years ago had very little experience.
Hell, they made it through with tons of luck against malaga coached by pellegrini, a team with no experience at all in the competition that did extremely well.
Also ask Caf about leeds making it to semi finals with shit all experience. Or look at monaco with no experience at all going to the final in 2004. There are other countless examples.
Also, leverkussen did beat dortmund @ wesfallenstadion this year.

By the way, "barce" doesn t exist, no one ever calls them that way, you ve been doing it for month. Please call them barƧa. Yes 1-3 remains possible actually.. A lot of things will need to change, who knows. City just has a toe left in the champion s league though. And yeah, not much difference between 1-2 and 0-2.

I've been thinking for some weeks that. I didn't like deMichelis and I didn't like Navas, and they are the two that fucked up yesterday. I don't follow Man City enough, but can't Jovetic do a similar job than Navas? I like Jovetic much more than Navas. DeMichellis should've been deported when he injured Beckham before the wolrd cup.

I had been following the games of Real Sociedad, and for some weeks I was pissed at Jose Angel, the left lateral, he lost a lot of balls. Well, he was the one that gave the ball to Messi for the 1-0 in the Copa del Rey cup match.

Are you starting to be fan of la real taco? You re always talking about them. They got the best looking jerzey this season I must say. I personally don t watch them that much, so you ve probably seen griezman much more than me. I was making my own 23 for the world cup with a friend the other day... Bah, too early but in a month or 2 could be fun for each of us to make out own 23 for our country (trevor can do england)

Real Sociedad has played some very good games in the last 3 years, but specially last season. This season has been not so good, but from time to time they play a very likeable football. Rarely do they play the whole game in a good manner, but in some range of minutes it's very nice.

The way I interpret it is as if they don't care if they lose. If you start to like them and want them to win you will be disappointed, because the next game they might look like they don't care at all.

Griezman is very good. I'd be surprised if he isn't in the WC. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Giroud or Benzema sit on the bench cause of him.

Well hopefully not, cause if benzema is on the bench in the first place it will be because things are not working out and we try alternatives..

I ve personally put griezman and thauvin in my 23

There's always going to be exceptions to the rule... maybe those teams had players with previous CL experience, I know Monaco did.

Regarding Barce, if you can say 'the Roma' or 'the Baryer' etc when no one uses the 'the' I'll stick to calling Barce, Barce ... people spell it Barca because they hear the Spanish E and think it should be an A. Is it Barcelona, or Barcalona? Plus I have my computer set up to English so i can do the Ƨ and I'm not changing it to Spanish settings when I want to write one word.

Monaco only had Morientes. All the rest were pretty much little virgins.

I use the "the" because that is how certain clubs are called locally. If an Italian says "Roma" it's the city; "la Roma" is the club. You have to put the article for most Spanish/Italian/French clubs because that's how they are called, it's in their DNA.
In France we use the article that is used locally (masculine or feminine), and don't use it when it's not. I hardly see how each club's tradition shouldn't be kept when translated.
And no, you are telling nonesense regarding barcelona. BarƧa is the original nickname of the team. 99% of the time spanish people call it "the barƧa". real madrid is either "the madrid", "the madri" or "the real" but masculin. "the real" feminine is the real sociedad; so you can't really use it in english.
"Barce" is just uneducated. if you can't use the "Ƨ", just write barca.

Uneducated ha, historical.

This is an English forum, it might be 'la Roma' or whatever in Italian but in English we don't use 'the', the only time 'the' is used is with LA Galaxy by David Beckham because he thinks the 'la' translates to the rather than Los Angles.

I know it's not Barce, but I'm going to continue to write it. They don't deserve to be spelled correctly anyway.

In what world is there a team called "barce"?
What would you say, "lazio scored" or "the lazio scored?" "Lazio scored" sounds so terribly wrong.
Anyway, I ve learned that it s useless to argue with trevor.

By now you should have learned that it's useless to argue with anyone on the internet...

Lazio scored sounds much better to a native English speaker and in English is correct. We don't say the Chelsea scored... just Chelsea scored, plain and simple.

It's like more better in English makes no sense but in Spanish mas major is ok.

I'm all for respecting languages but not when the translation breaks a rule of another language.

This should be just a formality for the title contender. Chelsea will be the only english left in quarter finals.

Milan is so inferior to the atletico this season.. History won t matter.

Fun fact: after a year and a half playing for paris... Zlatan has already scored here more goals than in any other club he s played for.

You don't think Man U can beat Olympiakos?

Woops forgot about them you re right. I guess I was thinking of the only team with chances to win in quarter finals. You never know with united and a bit early to say at this point without knowing the quarter finalists and the seedings, but I highly doubt united can be semi finalist this year. Chelsea can.

BarƧa, real, atleti, psg, chelsea, bayern should be the 6 fighting for those 4 spots, depending on the seedings.

The year Chelsea won it, they finished 5th in the league, Tottenham came 4th but because of a ruling relating to CL winners were knocked out the 4th allocated spot for English clubs. Man U have looked piss poor this season, but it is all the same players at the end of the day that won the league the previous season. With Mata, RVP and Rooney at the helm and an impressive supporting cast if you look at silverware they aren't out the reckoning.

First, "better" is "mejor", second "mas mejor" sounds just as bad as "more better". You would say "mucho mejor" which is just the same as "much better".

Otherwise you don t get my point. "The chelsea scored" sounds terrible. No one calls it "the chelsea".. There is a very big difference that you don't get. The Roma or the lazio is like a nickname. It implies "la societĆ”". The inter -> the international club of milan
The real -> the real madrid football club and so on. Those clubs are not referred to with the same logic by their fans, and it s not because we are talking in english here that the way of referring to one of these latin clubs has to be done with an english club logic.

You might be right. Don t forget liverpoo in.. 2005 was it? People might underestimate them just as I m doing, and that can totally play in their favour. And Moyes might have wet dreams to prove something in that competition. But yeah, if you look at united s roster, it s still pretty impressive.

All this betiko trevor thing, I'm going to ally with trevor, because he joined the fantasy baseball league.

betiko is right in the sense that it sounds stupid when people say (in spanish, at least) Lazio scored, in this case is like a proper name that it's formed, and includes "la", "La Lazio", "La Roma", "El Inter", "El Milan", "La Juve" and it's the same with Spanish clubs: "El Barca", "el Atleti", "El Real", "La Real".

When we speak of English teams, we add the "El" some times though, so it makes sense that, in translation to English trevor can make his changes. I'm simple used to the fact that in English i will read team names and nicknames without the "El".

But "Barce" does sound weird, it should be Barca, or Barcelona in english.

If you are reading it in a sports site, you can find it both: "El Chelsea" or "Chelsea", but in spanish, adding "El" is like pointing out it's the team you are talking about and not the neighborhood or whatever CHelsea is. If you are chatting on a bar, I don't think you'll hear "Chelsea va bien", you'll hear "El Chelsea va bien". So "Los Spurs", "El United", "El City", "Los Gunners"...

And betiko is right, "mas mejor" sounds like something very, very ignorant people would say in spanish, if you said that, you'll never hear the end of it.

betiko knows his spanish well, except I can use mexican slang words to make fun of him without him noticing.

I can use spanish slang without you noticing. When we play games and I insult you you understand half of it taco. :D

But basically, in French you would never say "le chelsea" or "le united". You would never say "roma" or "lazio" either. We call the clubs the way they are called locally.
But for example, in Spanish I would say "el chelsea" with spanish people, but if an english guy says "chelsea" speaking in Spanish it would sound very right, because it would sound more local.

Ha! So Pirlo, you called it naturally THE milan, or was it a wink to the previous conversation?
It's just so wrong to just call it "milan"...

It s no surprise though, the atleti was clear favorite. The rossoneri of this season are the worse i've ever seen.

Well, to say I'm gutted is an understatement. Our record signing Ozil's penalty miss has cost us any chance we had. If he tucks that penalty away, we're 1-0 up after 10 minutes and the entire course of events change last night.

Glad to see Atletico won, I backed them big style :)
