His last season playing for the Atletico was rather average. He d still find many european clubs who d want him. So it s a good catch for nycfc.
But you know... Beckham and henry still had some football left when they went to the mls. It s guys finishing their careers, but not as wasted as the ones that join the chinese, qatar or indian league.

Is Fekir any good in it? It s his first real season, so totally unknown when they made the game. I think they update player stats weekly?

you are comparing a world famous footballer who played for man united and now plays for real madrid at the peak of his career with a 20yo that has just played his first half-season as a professional. Of course chicharito is better right now. I'm talking of a player with a huge potential growing game after game. Watch arseille-lyon if you can next week end, I'm sure fekir will be a freaking pain in the ass. He has a low center of gravity and does what he likes running with the ball.. delivering tons of assists and starting to score a lot.
But now that I think about it... Benzema started playing with the pro team of Lyon when he was 17, and I think that when the real madrid bought him he was the age of fekir.

wow real madrid 3 schalke 4! what a game! schalke came so close in the last minutes to qualify! I would never have thought I'd see such an exciting finish! great job germans! Di Matteo almost did something incredible in champions league again.

anybody saw chelsea-psg?

just wow. ibra received a red card on minute 30... then PSG spends the entire game with one man down.... chelsea scores in the last 10 minutes... david luiz replies with a header 5 minutes before the end, so that's 1-1; 1-1 overtime! thiago silva touches the ball with his hand in the first half and gives a stupid penalty, but then he scores a header in the second half... 2-2, PSG wins on away goals!

that's a great revenge after last year's confrontation!

for those who don't remember; PSG won 3-1 their home game, and in the away game, chelsea scored the 2-0 in the very last minutes to win on away goals.
The year before that, PSG was eliminated by barcelona on away goals too... 2-2 in paris, 1-1 in barcelona. For once, the away goals rule favours them.

I do think it's totally stupid to apply the home/away goals rule in case of an overtime though. that means that during an entire confrontation, a team gets 90 minutes of goals counting double in case of overall tie, and the other gets 120 minutes of that.

it's indeed a ridiculous rule, the one who gets to play his away-game as second has the advantage

i think they were considering changing it at some point....
Paris deserved to pass anyways, being 1 man down during 90 minutes and dominating the second half in their away game, not to mention that the home game ending 1-1 was a fraud given that they were totally dominated. things don't look pretty this year for english teams... everton will probably be the last team standing.

man city are gone unless something crazy happens, but i fully expect arsenal to do something. whether they will qualify or not is another matter, but i reckon that is gonna be a crackin' match to watch, especially if there's an early goal. if you have some cash burning a hole in your pocket, you could do worse than have a punt on them to qualify for the next round.
had i been wise, i would have seen that her simplicity cost her a fortune

they need to score at least 3 goals in their away game against a team that has the champion's league's best defense and hope to receive no more than 1 just to make it to the overtime.. 2 goals received in 7 games so far in champions league by monaco . that sounds like something way crazier than what city needs to do.
they sure can win the game in monaco, but they are 95% eliminated rght now. Monaco is all about defense this season. Best defense in ligue 1 and best defense in champions league.

Nah, neither do I. I'll wait for the quarter finals and semis, which should be a lot more interesting than this week's games.

Just for the fun of it, I'll throw in my prediction for the Quarter finalists.
Chelsea, Bayern, Real, Basel, Barcelona, Juventus, Arsenal, Atletico.

I'd like Man City, Dortmund and PSG to advance, but I doubt it.
And yeah, Basel rules. I wish them the best of luck. More than any of these clubs mentioned.

Mourinho will do what he does best, play extremely defensive, counter and aim for that 0-0 or at max that 1-0.
It'll be a shit-game with almost no chances and mourinho attaining his objective, as so often.

David Luiz' and Thiago Silva's headers are to be taught in school.

Watch them in slow motion over and over and you'll see why. They are both perfect. The one that impresses me most is Thiago Silva's. You'd think he jumps before time, but he then bends his body, using his stomach, sending his head back and at the right moment he connects, giving the ball the neccessary force to pass Curtouis.

so no, mourinho doesn't rule, nietzsche rules! spot on mate. (even though the porto-basel was quite obvious..)

and jblombier's score predictions suck as much as his predictions to judge if games will be interesting!

shit, even the real madrid-schalke that sounded so lame ended up being super entertaining!

so officially in quarter finals:
real madrid
paris SG
bayern munich
porto

looking good to qualify next week:
barcelona
monaco
juventus
bayer leverkussen

the best 4 teams are clearly madrid, barcelona, bayern and paris

while I've been over crticizing these 2, they are back at their top since a month or two.
I don't know what happend to thiago silva during a full year... he basically became complete shit last year in stamford bridge, complete shit till the end of the season, complete shit during the world cup, complete shit during the first half of this season and is back to his prime level since 2015 started. He did give stupidly a penalty though..
And David Luiz... same thing as thiago silva. I have no idea what happened to these 2; probably the pressure of playing a world cup in brazil... and the depression following the debacle.

they still didn't deserve to be in the fifa 2014 team. They deserve to be in the 2015 so far though.

as i was commenting with nietzsche earlier today, unless something absolutely nuts happen in a good way to city, arsenal and everton... next year the german league will be the second best ranked league in europe behind the spanish one. some english clubs will have to go through premliminary rounds they didn't need to do before in europa league and i think the club ranked third in the league will have to play a preliminary round to access the champions league, just like the 4th does already.
