Not so happy in Lytton. As Canada Day dawned on the west coast, the village of Lytton, BC (which made headlines three days running for breaking the all-time temperature record for Canada) was engulfed in flames. By noon, it was apparent that the village had been effectively razed by the inferno.

The pair will be joined by representatives from the BC Wildfire Service and Emergency Management BC to provide an update at 1 p.m. on the current wildfire situation in British Columbia.

Ninety per cent of Lytton has been destroyed by fire, including nearby infrastructure like Telus and BC Hydro stations. Rail and highway infrastructure have also been impacted.

In the Interior, three fires are burning close together approximately 18 kilometres from Big White Ski Resort and new fires have sprung up at Trepanier Creek on the Okanagan Connector and west of Darke Lake, where another fire is already burning.

That is funny. Maybe you don't have any historical context?

Victoria statues have regularly been dabbed in red paint, like it was yesterday before being torn down, by socialist protesters. This is their M.O. Since this is such basic, common knowledge, I'm going to do what I hate to do and recommend you google "red paint" and "victoria" and look for articles more than 30 days old.

I mean, it's not your fault. A lot of Basic people and NPCs think socialism is about public libraries and milk vouchers.

Intersectionality, the underlying idea that there are systemic structures that consciously conspire to oppress marginal groups and that disparate marginal groups -- aboriginals, ethnic minorities, the economically disadvantaged, the transgendered, etc. - can, therefore, be rallied together under a single umbrella in which they cooperatively address all of each others various causes is often too complex for NPCs to understand. So NPCs say dull things like "I wanna be like Denmark," support socialist politics which - in turn - is used by the vanguard to empower intersectional activism in which all groups support all others, even those whose ideas or tactics they might not, if siloed, support.

I would like to say a couple things, however. First I will answer your question and then I would like to address a common misconception reflected in your post.

Anyway, in answer to your question, the program of residential schools was put in motion by the government. Her Majesty's government. Nowadays we think of the Queen as purely symbolic, but in the 1860s the monarch still held a lot of power and Royal Assent was not the window dressing that it is today. Our first prime minister, John A. MacDonald, was the architect of the policy, but he would not have enacted it without consulting with at least the governor general, possibly the Queen herself. Yes, the churches were entrusted with carrying out the job of re-educating the natives, because in the 19th century education was still seen as a church function. The government, however, created the policy, enacted it into law, and used the police to enforce it. The churches were just the subcontractors on the job.

Yet when I look at the list of residential schools in Ontario, I see that seven of sixteen, or slightly less than half, were Catholic. Four were Anglican, three were Mennonite, one was Presbyterian and one was United Church. The policy of the government was to apportion the students roughly according to the religion of the existing population, so that the balance of society would not be altered by introducing newly-indoctrinated natives. The population was roughly 60/40 Protestant over Catholic, so the schools and the students were apportioned accordingly.

Yet everywhere I look, I only see people outraged about the Catholic Church. I don't see anyone calling the Anglicans or the Mennonites or the Presbyterians to account. This is not to defend the Catholic Church. It was complicit in cultural genocide. But why is it the Protestants who were equally complicit walk away whistling as if this has nothing to do with them?

Yeah, that was kinda my point. Everything I've read is about the schools run by the Catholics, also. And yet, the schools run by the Protestant sects were given the same mandate, to beat the native-ness out of the natives. (Re-educate, I think, was the preferred term under Stalin and Mao, although John A. MacDonald had a more genteel way of putting it: "It has been strongly pressed on myself, as the head of the Department, that the Indian children should be withdrawn as much as possible from the parental influence, and the only way to do that would be to put them in central training industrial schools where they will acquire the habits and modes of thought of white men.") So what was happening at the Protestant schools? Nobody knows. Nobody is checking. The investigators have tunnel vision, and a massive hard-on for the Catholic church.
