Just drop the idea the game would be no strategy it would be 100% luck people could win on their first turn and that is no fun and that is just an easy way to lose points.

Hmm... It seems that there have been 3 failed attempts at this in the Foundry. I wonder why...

Why thank you. :D

Does anyone have a copy of the Star Wars Risk board game or good pictures of it? I'm not going to use its playing style, but I want to see what planets it considers important. It's not crucial since I already have the 100 or so planets I am using picked out and in place, but it'd be nice to look at.

George Lucas has a history of being really open with this copy right, and he pretty much makes all the decisions. He probably won't even care that this site is moderately commercial judging from his past actions. This is definitely worth pursuing.

EDIT: Hell, he might even join the site after you ask. He's a pretty cool guy, seriously.

Go to 3 circles, vary the connections, and change the continents, and you might have something.

There are a couple different versions of official Star Wars Risk. A normal Rise of the Rebellion risk, which is centered around the planets from the original trilogy, and then there is the Clone Wars Risk, which is centered around the new trilogy.

I didn't think of this, but after looking that information up, it raises some questions. Will the Death Star(s) figure into your map? how about alderaan, which gets blown up. How about that planet that gets destroyed in the first book of the New Jedi Order series?

A lot of work, im very interested to see your first map.

The general time period is roughly between Episodes 3 and 4 with no Empire, Republic, Rebellion, or CIS type organizations (since those type of factions are what the players themselves represent). Any traces of what they have directly done are non-existent while their indirect impact on planets' capacities remain. In other words, there will be an Alderaan and there won't be a Death Star but any planets built up as shipyards by the Empire will remain so.

You will get bonuses for holding industrial/shipyard planets like Fondor, Corellia, Kuat, Endor, and the Maw, commercial planets like Neimoidia and Muunilinst, troop/labor planets like Kamino, Geonosis, and Kashyyyk, political planets like Coruscant, Denon, Byss, and Alderaan, and planets with Force-sensitive organizations like Coruscant (again), Ossus, Yavin IV, and Korriban. You will also get bonuses for holding specific areas like the Core Worlds, Hutt Space, and Wild Space and planets along Hyperlanes like the Corellian Run or Hydian Way. The bonuses will exponentially increase as you get more of the planets of that bonus type.

The Hyperlanes will also allow you to jump ahead two planets at a time giving you the ability to travel faster across the map and jump past individual planets you don't want to fight. (Anyone guarding the end of a trade route will need to place lots of armies on two spots.)

If you have any suggestions regarding the above bonuses, routes, etc., don't hesitate to say so.

I know it's just coincidence but the shape is very similar.

Doodle Earth is having a tough enough time getting people to accept an 18 territory map, this is too much to fast I think for this old crotchety community.

Didn't do that on purpose; you even have the three color bonus "thing." It looks like its pretty dead in the water, but would you have any objection if it does pick some support?

None at all, but I think that's a little too optimistic at this point.

haha... It's not really that complicated. The different bonus types are all awarded the same way. The different types just allow them to work like continents, only more spread out and not necessarily requiring you to have all of them to get a bonus. Let's same conquering 2 of a type gives you a +1 bonus, 3 a +3 bonus, 4 a +6 bonus, and so on. If you got 4 of one type, you'd get +6. If you got 2 of one type and 2 of another, you'd only have +2. I think that'd make it quite interesting. The Hyperlane and Sector bonuses retain the actual continent type playing style.

Wait a week until finals are over then I'll have a visual aid for you. If I had a scanner or a decent camera, I'd have something to post now, but sadly I don't.

Does anyone have a list of less obvious planets or other features they want to see on it before I start finalizing my design? I'm not as well-versed in the Expanded Universe stuff as other people here might be, so I might be missing some relatively important locations. (I'm relying on Wookiepedia for a lot of my information.)

Pentagon Super Fortress (Huge Map)

Postby andreweberman on Mon May 07, 2007 2:46 am

Pentagon Super Fortress

My small map didn’t go over so well, so I will try my hand at a massive one. Massive maps are my favorite (check my game history for proof), and there is only really one that is qualifies (world 2.1).

Pentagon Super Fortress is eloquently simply, yet complex in its strategy. There are 151 territories, 25 countries (plus one individual territory bonus), and 6 continents…I told you it was massive. Despite its size, the map is easy to understand.

If you have map creating skills (which I obviously lack) and are interested in trying to make this map a reality leave a message or send me a PM. Try to picture the map more symmetrical (as I intended it to be).

To see it click on the following link (it is a very rough drawing)
http://picasaweb.google.com/AndrewEBerman/ConquerClub/photo?authkey=mrqaPO0C2R4#5061719536338888914

Let me know what you think.

In case you can’t read the writing on the map:

“Pentagon Super Fortress
andreweberman

Can not attack through dark black lines

Territory 26 (in exact center) can be attacked (and attack) all surrounding countries (10 in total)

Bonus In Grey

#26 gets bonus of 2

Complete control of external Pentagon (not the one in the center) = extra 5

Compete control of central Pentagon = extra 12"

In my experience, maps that have repetitive features or symmetry don't go that far. World 2.1 succeeded not only because it is massive but because it still retains the strategy of an irregularly organized map. (That is why Crossword and Circus Maximus are the two least played maps.)

After I get my current project finished (also massive), I think I'm going to go for a world 3.0 (or 2.2) with about double the territories of 2.1 or whatever amount has the army numbers in their tightest configuration possible. Only the most insanely dedicated players would try it. :D I'm also considering a time traveling map where battles are waged on Earth across several different time periods. Both ideas will involve different strategies in different locations. Perhaps you could try something similar.
