risk idea not in map but in play conditions

Postby detoorteg on Mon Oct 29, 2007 5:28 pm

Okay i started playing risk on the board as soon as it came out and since ihave six brothers we played lots of games together.

The one thing we noticed with risk was that the game relied to much on luck and we needed something else to make it excited and unpredictable were a losing player or weaker player still had an advantage.

We found that if each player had bombs ......a maximum of three bomb.
that this could make the game more interesting.

so each player kept three cards after they were handed out so each player knew where his countries and armies were deployed.

in 2 3 player games three cards as bombs were kept.

in four or five player games only two cards were kept as bombs.

the players could blow the bombs up with the armies that occupied the teritory before the start of there turn.

this meant that you could still get your bonus for a continent if an occupying army was on your teritory.

no doubt most of the time it bombs were kept on borders but that was not always the case.

We found this added more meaning to the game and more fun.

in some cases fight broke out as you can imagine as we used to play for money and there was nothing worse than you plan an attack and rest your armies on a teritory with say 20 or so armies to get them blown up.

to remember what was safe to begin with we made up a set exactly the same as the game cards and placed an X on them those cards were picked out initially when the cards were dealt out.

depending of what countries you had the corresponding cards were taken from the set we created and from them each player kept there bombs.

We had a lot of fun with this invention and it really gave the game more substance and more fun.

However many of my brothers including myself got very angry when someone say boooooooommm and there goes your advantage.

I thought I share this with you and if you do have the old board game and still play it try it out it`s really more fun.

All you have to do is get a packet of poker playing cards write the names of the countries as of those of risk and put an big x THROUGH THEM TO SIGNIFY .......BOMB.

HAND THESES CARDS OUT TO MATCH WHAT WAS GIVEN OUT IN THE FIRST PLACE TO EACH PLAYER.

THEN PLAYERS CHOOSE TO KEEP THE BOMBS NEXT TO THEM AND CAN USE THEM WHEN THEY CHOOSE TO DO SO IN PLAY.

WE TOYED AROUND WITH THE IDEA OF HAVING THE SECOND SET OF CARDS WHICH YOU CAN TAKE ONE ASWELL AS A RISK CARD AFTER TAKING A TURN AS YOUB DO IN RISK.

WHAT WE THOUGHT OF DOING IS PLACE ONE TWO OR THREE ARMIES ON THESE CARDS OR BOMBS,but the bombs that never took off so we stuck to this idea.

Thought i share this with you all ..........bye

anything that takes that long to explain can't be a very good idea.

Anyway, this belongs in a general suggestions forum as it is a game play issue, not a map issue.

I like the idea, and it sounds like something that XML could possibly handle in the future. Thanks detoorteg for sharing that.
