Settlers of catan

Postby Iliad on Mon Dec 03, 2007 2:32 am

The map is settlesrs of catan. The territories are the cities and settlements. They are connected via roads. If you ahve a setttlement near a hex the hex is under your control. Each turn 2 dice would be rolled and if the hex which you control has that number you get a card. Perhaps it will be kinda like Age of Realms with everyone starting with two settlements. You get points ofr settlements. For each settlement there is another territory that if you conquer it becomes a city and you get 2 cards from the hex.

So any feedback?

if you aren't going to include a working map you should post your idea in the dedicated Map Ideas thread rather than starting a new thread.

anyway, Settlers of Catan is somebody else's work, so it's copyrighted.

We could still do what he said and call it something else. As long as we don't steal Settlers of Catan's layouts or artwork.

sure, the basic idea is sound... maps in which you build an empire out of nothing may be the next big thing at CC. After the Midkemia incident I just cringe every time somebody suggests dong a map based on an existing work of fiction.

I could work the only thing is that all of the roads, villages, cities and piece would need to be placed at the beginning. And since in Catan you get cards for owning territories when dice are rolled, this will not play the same here.

Really each player would be fighting over these difference pieces.
And based on the picture below, there are not too many pieces to fight over. Or would teh players fight over hexes and pieces?

Iliad, what was your thinking for how to do the bonuses. Since rolling dice (on CC) are just used to attack and on Catan they are used to gain cards.
Oh and here is a bigger map and rules (just in case people don't know.)

I was thinking something on the works of AGe of might everyoen starts with a settlement or two depending on the size of the maps and you can attack the roads and settlements and for each settlement there is a small extra which if you take it becomes a city.

You could also have the longest road bonus( at least 5 connected roads) and otehr rhitngs. Thre should be a die roll at the beginning of every turn and people get cards

Yep that would work. You would probably need to setup the map with more pieces that Catan actually would use. That way the number of territories would be more.

Catan is really fun. It might be neat to see how it would play here.

I don't know how the die roll at each turn woudl work. I think teh actual gameplay code would need to be rewritten.

OK I have been playing settlers a lot this holidays and was thinking this could be a really fun thing to do on CC. Of course the gameplay of settlers would be different, but thinking more along the lines CC on a settlers type map with bonuses around the types of squares you sit on. So anyway here is sorta the type of map I was thinking (very ROUGH!):

Image

Now what I was thinking was a start similar to age of realms where you would start with two territories (not the harbours or the desert middle square), and you start to expand. I was thinking maybe putting roads/walls to force people into via the middle through the desert.

Now as for bonus's what I was thinking was if you controlled all of one resource (on my map a color) you would get a bonus. If you controlled the desert you would get a negative bonus. Finally if you controlled say 2 of 1 resource and the corrisponding harbor for it then you get an additional bonus. Also another bonus could be if you controlled one of the neutral harbors and a 3 of any territory. Anyway with the resources all spread out as well as the harbours I think this could make a really fun map to play.

What do you guys think? I don't mind doing this if you guys think it is worthwhile.
