A map with no continents

Postby InkL0sed on Thu Jan 10, 2008 10:16 pm

This seem worth pursuing?

And since I forgot to add the connections, here's my sketch of it. Note that I did away with one circle, because I thought a fourth circle made way too many territories.

Also, though I'd be willing to give this a shot myself, I'd prefer someone who actually knows how to use a graphics program do this. I know almost nothing about Photoshop, and the circles arent actually centered in this version...

This is very very rough. What do you think of gameplay?

I think with the design shown above, there will be lots of stalemates with all of the one country borders.

I agree with whoever said it, a Ying Yang symbol with some design that has to do with that theme. it would be awesome. Just try to avoid symmetrical maps. they seem to get boring and have lots of stalemates.

like wca said, a symmetrical map like this will lead to stalemates and just won't be that fun.

a map without continents needs some other gameplay quirk to help it out. This one doesn't have it currently.

it looks like the dartboard map that someone is doing. that's symmetrical too, but the way it is setup and all the quirks make it a map that could probably work. I don't think we need two maps with this general shape.

keep thinking though!

What if the second level of territories (the circle with 8 ) could all attack each other?

I don't think anything like that would really help

it's the concept that doesn't work not and it can't be fixed by a simple thing like that

How 'bout making holding the center territory an objective? With a ton of neutrals on it?

Also, I'm reconsidering adding that fourth circle of territories, or maybe having a territory bonus similar to the way it was done in Feudal Wars.

Would that make this map fun playing? Always keep that in mind.

I'm not sure this is the right way to go about this idea. It has no appeal with me anyway. :(

I agree with Coleman. That just looks kinda dull. And very much like the '8 thoughts' map just without borders....
