Changes to Classic map make it hard to read ....

Postby delahoc on Mon Jan 21, 2008 4:25 pm

There has been a series of changes made to the classic (v2?) map today that make it even harder to read who owns what. The background colour behind troop numbers has changed from a dark shade to a whiter shade, and now it's much harder to read.

Can I strongly recommend that it be changed back????

Agreed. Obviously the change is so that the numbers contrast with the background, but it looks busy and doesn't work.

Moving this to foundry discussion, as for the map i cant comment at the moment on the situation, but i encourage any and all discussion on this topic for the time being.

Northern Europe and Mongolia especially aren't right, but really, the whole thing.

Can I suggest this discussion shouldn't just be confined to Foundry? Many people who don't use the Foundry forum might have an opinion.

I like the new changes except for one point...now the army shadows are too bright.

And btw respect to all of you, programming away at things us mortals don't understand.

(But the new design is hideous.)

Bad changes

Postby delahoc on Mon Jan 21, 2008 4:54 pm

Thanks for moving this to the correct area. I wasn't sure where it should go.

But it seems like many others also don't like the new look. It's a standard graphical design thing - white backgrounds wash colours out as the white competes with the colour, whereas darker backgrounds make the colours richer and stand out more.

Definitely needs a dark background behind the numbers rather than light.

Two other comments:

- the colours in the legend are now also washed out, and harder to match against the map colours.

- a thicker font would make the colour more obvious. Is that a possibility??

Thanks all

I would like to add my voice to those requesting that it be changed back.

I know there's been talk of a revamp, and that's one thing, but this new classic map looks demonstrably worse, for all the reasons enunciated above.

Plus now there's that totally extraneous exclamation point at the end.

I see no improvement to the map, just changes. I might get used to it in time, but if nothing was benefited from this change, why not undo the alterations?

Change back created huge errors!!

Postby delahoc on Mon Jan 21, 2008 5:48 pm

I'm really happy to see that the old Classic map has been restored, but the changeover seems to have created HUGE problems!!!

I'm in a speed game at the moment (1643911) where all three of us are getting bonuses for EVERY continent at the start of our turns - whether we own the continents or not!!!

Is this happening in other games??

Let's not discuss the massive classic bug here. Yes it is happening in every classic game and we are aware of it. Working on a fix or a temporary solution right now.
