Maybe the amount of individual posters in the thread would be a cool thing to add. :)

I can add individual poster count fairly easily, but I will NOT catalogue who made how many posts. I've got to do that already for Creators and C.A.s, and doing that for every single person is a data nightmare waiting to happen. I'm not 100% confident on my count on some topics, so adding more data will likely make the minimal error I know is present worse.

There should be an easier way to do this than manually counting posts...

There isn't a way that my programming-minded brain could figure out. As it stands, I only need to "read" a topic 3 times. Once to get Creator/C.A. count, getting the Revision date and posts since on the back end. The second to pick up Feedback and Support, and catch any errors I made on the first runthrough. The second takes the bulk of my time compiling statistics, but is also the most educational. The third is one I haven't fully implemented yet, which catalogues how many different posters there were in the topic, and it's a fairly quick pass.

Oasis breakdown, per request of wcaclimbing:
In a lot of ways, Oasis is an amazing map. Its graphics are great, its gameplay is sufficiently unique, and the mapmaker helming it is receptive to intelligent changes to the map. It also is holding down a solid 5.27 posts/day despite being created over 2 months ago. NOTHING of that age even approaches the post rate of Oasis. In some ways, people post faster than wcaclimbing can respond, as he's only made 24.94% of all the posts.

The map has gotten a slew of support (30 posts worth, only exceeded by The Trojan War's 44 which was filled with teasers), and just over 57% of the time people are leaving constructive feedback in some form. Oasis also has 40 posts by C.A.s, greater than all but Supermax and New Europe, topics much older than it.

The relatively slow updating has created a significant amount of spam in the thread, nearly 1/3 (32.53%) of people's replies doesn't help wcaclimbing at all when it comes to completing his map. A lot of it is rehashing topics already covered by others, or simple laziness on the part of the poster to find answers.

In sum, you've created quite the extraordinary map, wcaclimbing. Now go out there and get us Version 6 already.

Oasis is a phenomenon. I am quite proud to have come up with the original idea

It's going to be something else when it comes out.

:D
Thank you for the stats!

yep.... I have been seeing some of that spam lately.
Its not really "spam", though. its more of just a bunch of posts that don't really help.
But I don't mind. its actually kinda entertaining. It keeps reminding me that I am supposed to be working on the map and not just messing around.

that, and I have a gap of about 2 weeks in between each update.
Last update was army ## copy/paste. this one wants the small version.
The updates are getting less and less interesting, which makes them kinda boring for me to do, which slows down the updates.
I'll get to doing it eventually, though.
I'm suprised its getting so many posts, even though I have huge gaps in between updates....

Sorry about the delay. With school ending and my subsequent loss of a hard drive, updating these stats took a temporary backseat. I've started compiling update statistics for all the maps I've already compiled, and plan to finish later "today". I may add on a couple new maps as well, and get closer to finishing the entire thing.

Mind-blowing news for today: I am DONE with first compilation. Yes, I have sifted through over 10,000 posts and categorized them many different ways. Bummer is I have neglected my life for the past 24 hours or so, so everyone will have to wait until I have more time to post up the finished stats.

i assume you're using excel to compile the stats. why not instead of manually posting for each and every map, you simply upload the xls file. it's faster, people can download it and get a better view or even use the data to compile their own stats and on top of all in case your pc crashes again (hope not) you have a back-up file here

I am using Excel, and don't worry, I'll include the finished source file in a couple hours. I also want to keep it in plain text form, so you can tab over to this topic, check some stats, and go about your business, instead of downloading, opening, scanning through my much-less-readable source spreadsheet.

actually to be honest i think browsing an excel sheet would be much easier than scrolling up and down on the page trying to compare 2 maps. :D

I have finished the first compilation of Map Stats. As it stands, it is a valuable resource, but I am not done. Over the next week, I will be analyzing the now-complete data and coming up with my Map Health metric. Health will be purely based on the numbers presented in the statistics and not based on my subjective opinion (aside from the Feedback/Support opinion, of course). I will try to give reasons for why each map has a certain health as well. I also think I will find out some very interesting facts about mapmaking that go against the grain of traditional thought (one that I know exists right now: there IS such a thing as too much feedback, and it happens at around 75%). Finally, expect me to compile most/least lists for every statistic, just for kicks.

And I WILL be updating the statistics on a regular basis.

EDIT: DiM, I added the source file to the top of the first post.
