Color Code Options

Postby PapaGeek on Wed May 31, 2017 3:37 am

Concise description:
  • Some of the maps, Tamriel for example, place the colors and troop counts in dark circles. I joined CC in 2010 and I’m almost 70 now. As you get older and your vision changes it sometimes gets difficult to easily read dark blue or dark green on a dark background. Would it be possible to give the game two or three different color options for the various players? Normal, one where the darker colors are lighter, and one where the lighter colors are darker.

Specifics/Details:
  • CC would determine the various color options, not the user.
  • This would not change the rules, just the way CC determine the RGB values the game uses to display the map.
  • CC currently has a list of clickable options in the top right corner of each map, refresh map, map size, etc. CC could merely add another toggle option to allow the user to rotate through the color schemes.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • There are a large number of maps with a variety of background colors. This would allow members with various vision issues to enjoy more of the maps.
  • Members would not have to stop using various maps or stop playing the game if their vision changes.

Other options:
  • Allow the user to determine if the background color of the circle is always light or dark. Reading the troop counts on maps like Luxembourg is not a problem because the circles are light. Dark colors on a light background is far better than dark colors on a dark background.
  • Right now you outline all colors in black which works fine on light backgrounds and makes things more difficult on dark backgrounds. Could you outline the colors in white on dark backgrounds?

All these options already exist. If you go to your Settings Panel, you will see the following:

The most important one there is "Circle Whiteness" which is what you're asking for in your suggestion. Click on the 0% it goes to 10%, click again it goes to 20%, etc., etc., until you get to a whiteness level that lets you see the troops easily.

Some of the others can be helpful in various situations.
  • If you play with "Map Opacity", it makes some of the darker maps easier to read.
  • "Map Size" is useful in making big maps fit and making small maps easy to read.
  • "Colour Codes" are useful on maps where the map colours camouflage the troop colours and make them hard to see. They're also necessary for colour-blind people. I always recommend that people play with the Circle Whiteness first and Map Opacity second. Unless you're colour-blind, Colour Codes are really a last resort.
"Text Map" can be used to check which terts connect to which, when the map image is ambiguous.

Are you using a special add-on? I have looked all over for a page that has the dropdowns that you have at the top of your post. And when I go to Settings in the Personal Menu section on the left all I get is a list of options with yes/no, small/large, and on/off buttons. None of them mention circle whiteness!

Under Personal Menu/Settings look for "Panel Interface", select it to "Yes", then this should have additional tab in your game.

Thanks Mad777 that totally solves my problem. For those who have PMed me on the final answer step by step:

  • In Personal Menu in the left column of the page, click on settings which will bring up the Game Settings menu.
  • The third section down in Game Setting.
  • The first line in Game Settings is Panel Interface, make sure is says currently set to Yes.
  • Now when you enter any game board the upper right will include the tab for [Settings] which lets you change a lot of things including the circle whiteness.
