That would be awesome, except that they would need to change stickies a lot if I kept this frequent. I'm going to try to keep my personal bias out of these topics as much as possible so that's all I'll say about that. Thank you.
That doesn't take too long. All you do is click edit and it's under there. How often do you post one of these threads?

Actually I've decided to just keep this one topic, so the sticky wouldn't need to change much, but I don't have an okay to make this a sticky and I don't want to arbitrarily do it.

I update about once a week.

Edit: Okay, maybe I can't. Seems I'm not allowed to? Or I just can't figure out the right controls.

go to the first post and click edit.

then look right above the "Add a poll" panel. you will see 2 radio buttons with normal checked. like this:

Post topic as: (*) Normal ( ) Sticky

simply click on the sticky and then submit at the bottom.

if you don't see that then you don't have the right

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2007

CONTRIBUTORS

Coleman as the Editor & Chief and People Like You.

This is archived as the first post is the latest version. If the first post is the same then the new post is being worked on as you read this.

FORWARD
Yeah, I'm late. Nobody complained though, so I'm assuming nobody cares and I could maybe stop doing these? That or everyone's week has been as busy as mine. Not much to say except we had a crazy week. So far there don't seem to be any serious bugs on most of the new maps, although BOB is facing some more challenges, for those of you that know about BOB. Not much else to say this week.

One thing to always keep in mind: If any part of this is incorrect and edited the edit will not replace the information, it will instead be added in this text.

We also have a web edition if the forum doesn't quite suit your fancy.

The other edition has been discontinued because it was getting 0 hits and wouldn't format correctly anyways. A link for your memories: http://foundrynews.blogspot.com/

MAP IDEAS

Ragnarök - Clicky
Start Date: June 27, 2007
Creator: Telvannia
Status: Early Draft

No Changes
Ranarök is a map designed to simulate a huge battle between the inhabitants of Norse mythology. A working map hasn't surfaced yet but we have a clear look at the general layout available. (Click For Image) This map recently resurfaced from the foundry furnace due to community interest. The Migogaror region is currently being worked on (Click For Image) and should be finished eventually. The current creator has real life commitments slowing development.

Warpath of the Native Americans - Clicky
Start Date: June 30, 2007
Creator: MarVal
Status: Third Revision

This is mostly a geographic map with a native focus set in the Americas. MarVal has been doing a very good job with research but is still facing some issues being brought up by others with different ideas on what he should be focusing on with the map. His current revision still lacks clear gameplay mechanics. Since there are over 500 federally recognized tribes in the United States alone MarVal may start to have some real problems on his hands if more people of native decent show up wondering why their tribe isn't part of his map.

WWII Europe - Clicky
Start Date: August 15, 2007
Creator: qwert
Status: On Hold

No Changes
WWII Europe is an effort by qwert to merge the Eastern Front map with his still unfinished Western Front map into a single map. (Click For Image) It has been confirmed that at current this map is halted until the foundry can decide how to officially handle oversized maps.

The Era of The Three Kingdoms - Clicky
Start Date: September 3, 2007
Creator: Gimil
Status: Second Revision

The sheer giddiness some posters have to this is astounding. This map is based on the actual events exaggerated by Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The actual novels are worth acquiring if you have never read or even heard of them, as are many of the video games based on them. At current this map lacks some essential information (continent bonuses) so that is why it is still in Map Ideas. Gimil says the gameplay needs more work before he'll tackle continent bonuses.

Washington D.C. - Clicky
Start Date: September 12, 2007
Creator: Unit_2
Status: Early Draft

Simple map based on Washington D.C. It's going to take some major revisions to make this a real working map but the intent is there.

Madness (OUR HOUSE) - Clicky
Start Date: September 27, 2007
Creator: cairnswk
Status: Early Draft

A map based on the song Our House, also known as the Madness Song. cairnwsk posted the lyrics inside the topic. He has changed a few things to make the map have more of a CC flair. The map is still a little ugly at the moment unfortunately. Many suggestions have come up on how to make the graphics better, including some 3d map ideas. It should be interesting to see what direction cainswk takes this idea.

State of Map Ideas
Expect to see stricter moderation here soon. This may make Coleman unpopular as he will probably be doing most of it, but oh well.

MAP FOUNDRY

San Diego Real Estate - Clicky
Start Date: April 6, 2007
Creator: TroyMcClure
Status: Graphics Polishing

This is an interesting style of map based on the San Diego area. The twist is that instead of armies you are supposed to be throwing money around. This map may be old, and slightly lacking in popularity, but the author is committed to the idea and has recently worked on bringing it back into the spotlight. Currently the graphics are being fixed up.

SUPERMAX: Prison Riot! - Clicky
Start Date: June 6, 2007
Creators: mibi & Coleman
Status: Heavy XML Work

SUPERMAX: Prison Riot! is about a riot in a Supermax. Supermax is a very real and frequently used term for a type of prison as much as it is for a section of a larger one. Coleman is currently undergoing heavy work on the outrageously complex xml with the help of yeti_c.

South America - Clicky
Start Date:June 17, 2007
Creators: edbeard & Marvaddin
Status: Font Vote

Finally a map of South America. This region is very neglected on the site for geographic maps so it is nice having one in development. This map is undergoing some traumatic graphic adjustments, including font changes and continent recoloring. There is currently a vote going for the font with four choices.

WWII Western Front - Clicky
Start Date: July 19, 2007
Creator: qwert
Status: Waiting for Forge

This is similar to WWII Eastern Front, a released map. This instead focuses on the Western Front, or more on the Allies vs Germany conflict instead of the Germany vs Russia conflict. This map should be moving to Final Forge soon, although complaints about Britain still persist, but that probably isn't news. Bloody English.

Age of Realms Trilogy- Chapter 1: Age of Might - Clicky
Start Date: July 21, 2007
Creators: DiM, gimil, yeti_c
Status: On Hold

No Changes
Age of Realms Trilogy- Chapter 1: Age of Might features a new gameplay concept where each person starts with just 1 territory (a castle) and expands by 'liberating' villages' resources and factories it also features an immersing story set up in a realm of fantasy where the goal is to start as a noble prince and rule the kingdom. but due to it's chapter based nature this is only the beginning. chapters 2 and 3 will bring continuity to the story and will add twists and turns in the plot. all 3 chapters will take place on the same map but each time the landscape will change to portray the events in the chapter plus new gameplay features will help make each chapter unique. It has been confirmed that at current this map is halted until the foundry can decide how to officially handle oversized maps.

Midkemia - Clicky
Start Date: July 21, 2007
Creator: Gnome
Status: Ready for Final Forge?

This is a map based on the fantasy world of Midkemia. All copyright concerns have been passed so this map is okay for the site. This map is also employing a new idea in not having borders and instead connecting territories with paths. This was going to be final forged soon but Gnome was found to be a multi by a currently unknown hunter and banned from the site. Gnome made yet another account to let us hear the news. This banishment may have been in bad taste if Gnome's claims that the other account was another family member turn out to be true. Currently it is unknown as to if this map will be able to continue development. The Foundry moderators hope that Gnome is attempting to appeal and will be back to work soon.

UPDATE: Gnome is back! Her appeal was successful, or at least, we can only assume so.

Pixel World - Clicky
Start Date: July 25, 2007
Creator: BelJoDude
Status: Work All Around

Pixel World is just what it sounds like, sort of. The idea is to fit as many territories as possible onto a map with the current size constraints imposed by the foundry policy while maintaining decent gameplay. This map is constantly undergoing graphic and gameplay alterations.

Berlin 1962 - Clicky
Start Date: August 4, 2007
Creator: oaktown
Status: Polishing

This map is about the city of Berlin during the Cold War in 1962. For those who don't know the Cold War was a conflict between the United States and Russia that lasted for years with small skirmishes throughout the entire world. Berlin was one of these locations. The Capital of Germany. The start time for this is slightly inaccurate as this map was initially presented as the city of Berlin from a different point of view.
oaktown seems to be very interested in getting this to Final Forge soon, as he has all the pieces in place, but he still has a few suggestions to implement or refute yet.

The Thai-Burma POW Railway - Clicky
aka: Bamboo Jack
Start Date: August 4, 2007
Creator: cairnswk
Status: Polishing

Cairnswk had a bad start with this one, creating controversy over playing on dead bodies in the Bridge On The River Kwai. After initial non-interest, the map was re-designed to be based on the Thai-Burma Railway and adjoining territories and four POW camp that can be attacked from the rail line and territories. Standard gameplay, no gimmicks, but lots of territories, with graphics featuring a definite Thai flavour and colours. cairnswk has recently come up with an update but has a little bit more polishing to do yet.

The Puget Sound - Clicky
Start Date: August 13, 2007
Creator: Tisha
Status: Polishing

The Puget Sound is a map of a body of water (part of the ocean actually) in Washington. This map mostly focuses on the land around the Puget Sound. The Foundry is currently awaiting another update from Tisha to clean up the army circles.

Canada REVAMP! - Clicky
Start Date: August 27, 2007
Creator: WidowMakers
Status: Redrawing

WidowMakers has run into some trouble on this revamp, as the vocal majority seems to have voted against his map and are now angrily forcing him to start redoing his artwork a bit. Fortunately, it's looking better already. WidowMakers has so far been up to the challenge and much of the negativity he first received is starting to filter out and become more constructive.

RAIL EUROPE - Clicky
Start Date: September 1, 2007
Creator: cairnswk
Status: Awaiting rail colours.

No Change
This is the second in the series of rail maps planned which started with RAIL USA. Gameplay is slightly different from RAIL USA with a "rail line impassable" at some stations. Close to 99 European-flavoured stations on board covering 17 Service lines. This map is still in graphics stage, and is awaiting rail colours being added as the most significant lacking graphical component.

Civil War Map - Clicky
Start Date: September 18, 2007
Creator: Elijah S
Status: Polishing Image

This is a map based around the American Civil War and was just recently moved from the foundry. The current major thing is the graphics are quite pixelated, but this is being constantly improved with each update.

Map Foundry Debates
Currently the Foundry Process is in a state of flux as a community of foundry regulars is fighting the current processes and standards heavily. The main issues are map size and development time. These are too intricate to adequately cover in a news post but links are provided below. A resolute ending to either conflict is unlikely in the near future.

MALTA Map - Clicky
Start Date: December 6, 2006
Creators: Ruben Cassar & Yeti_C.
Status: Needs Yeti_C's signature.

No Changes
Map of Malta. If you are starting to notice a trend a lot of December maps of countries were started and are just now nearing completion. The moderators' words on the status of this are vacation, but it needs Yeti_C's signature, as he is the xml artist. So it is not finished regardless.

The Netherlands - Clicky
Start Date: December 29, 2006
Creator: Lone.prophet
Status: Graphic Work

No Changes
The production time for this map of the Netherlands is a bit off base as the whole graphics portion was redone recently. The graphics are still undergoing work.

Greater China - Clicky
Start Date: January 14, 2007
Creator: Wisse
Status: Waiting for Graphic Update from Wisse

Map of China, possibly not set in the present. Otherwise it is mostly true to native names. This map is currently undergoing some slight graphics work. Just some stray pixel cleaning.

South Africa Map - Clicky
Start Date: March 16, 2007
Creator: Crowley
Status:Waiting for Creator Update

No Changes
Map of South Africa. This map is so great it entered Final Forge in August and nobody had anything bad to say about it since. Unfortunately, Crowley has expressed an interest in providing a final update so we have to wait for that.

The Solar System - Clicky
Start Date: June 14, 2007
Creator: maxdetjens
Status: Adjusting Coordinates

This is a map of the Solar System. Sort of. It borrows some science fiction ideas, so it is a potential future map of it. maxdetjens went missing during part of the development process due to real life getting in the way. He is now back and updating full time. The map is currently having coordinates adjusted

There were some more map ideas maps I wanted to add, but Galactic still makes me a little nervous and Time and Space isn't for sure moving yet.

Also I'm considering dropping out Unit_2's map and not adding Japan as he doesn't seem to be able to get enough momentum going for his maps. I want to help but he may not have the skill to get something good going, as mean as that sounds.

As it sounds he may have something going with japan there sufficient talk at hte moment. its his best effort yet.

His indian ocean map is getting the graphics done by myself, but that wont be ready for a few more days, maybe a week.

One recommendation I would have for the 'quenched maps' section is to list any outstanding xml/BOB issues. T'would be nice to have a centralized repository of said info, rather than having to research a variety of threads to discover that the xml on Iwo Jima has yet to be updated or that BOB doesn't count aircraft in Pearl Harbor or until recently (thanks coleman) work for D-Day. Or that the red territory numbers in D-Day are under discussion, or the xml designation for the cittas in Italy.

I'm probably going to do this tonight or tomorrow as I'll be way way way too busy this weekend to handle it on Sunday.

The new version will have recently quenched as its own section at the end with known issues. As well as another change that has escaped my mind at the moment, but I have it written down someplace.

EDIT! Just remembered. All text that is exactly the same as the last post is going to be in this color and style. I reuse a lot of text in describing what some maps are every week. This will also eliminate the no changes tag.

THIS IS THE ARCHIVED POST, THE LATEST IS ON PAGE 1. IF PAGE 1 IS THE SAME AS THIS I AM CURRENTLY UPDATING IT.

CONTRIBUTORS

Coleman as the Editor & Chief and People Like You.

FORWARD
This has been a really dead week for the most part. All lack of progress on anything seems to be due to the foundry process from my point of view and not a lack of response on the part of any of the moderation staff, which is the goal. What I mean by that is that any map not moving forward is not waiting for a mod to say or do something, it is waiting for the map maker to do something, which is a very happy place to be indeed.

Moving on. I have been scouting the forums and there seems to be a growing disparity between what the community wants from new maps and what they are being provided with. I think this may be a good time for a Community Awareness Week. Try to see what the average CCers would like to see that they do not already have and what they are seeing out of new stuff they don't like. Let us (okay me...) know what you hear. I'll even make it a special section of the next news post if I get enough responses. Or even if I get just one... We'll see.

One thing to always keep in mind: If any part of this is incorrect and edited the edit will not replace the information, it will instead be added in this text.

We also have a web edition if the forum doesn't quite suit your fancy.

State of Map Ideas
Expect to see stricter moderation here soon. Coleman has been seen locking topics and cairnswk is working on a map ideas index to make that topic more accessible as well as merging posts that are not turning into maps into the ideas topic.

MAP FOUNDRY

San Diego Real Estate - Clicky
Start Date: April 6, 2007
Creator: TroyMcClure
Status: Abandoned

This is an interesting style of map based on the San Diego area. The twist is that instead of armies you are supposed to be throwing money around. This was recently abandoned and will not be in the next news post.

SUPERMAX: Prison Riot! - Clicky
Start Date: June 6, 2007
Creators: mibi & Coleman
Status: Needs Lack Level XML Update

SUPERMAX: Prison Riot! is about a riot in a Supermax. Supermax is a very real and frequently used term for a type of prison as much as it is for a section of a larger one. It has recently been discovered that the current xml constraints would cause this map to have an xml file over a terrabite in size. As such a massive file can not be hosted on most consumer computers it is unlikely lack would be willing (or even able) to post it on the site. As such, this map requires an xml update from lack or a major gameplay change to continue.

South America - Clicky
Start Date:June 17, 2007
Creators: edbeard & Marvaddin
Status: Font Vote

No Changes
Finally a map of South America. This region is very neglected on the site for geographic maps so it is nice having one in development. This map is undergoing some traumatic graphic adjustments, including font changes and continent recoloring. There is currently a vote going for the font with four choices.

WWII Western Front - Clicky
Start Date: July 19, 2007
Creator: qwert
Status: Waiting for ???

No Changes
This is similar to WWII Eastern Front, a released map. This instead focuses on the Western Front, or more on the Allies vs Germany conflict instead of the Germany vs Russia conflict. This map should be moving to Final Forge soon, although complaints about Britain still persist, but that probably isn't news. Bloody English.

Age of Realms Trilogy- Chapter 1: Age of Might - Clicky
Start Date: July 21, 2007
Creators: DiM, gimil, yeti_c
Status: Reviving

New: DiM has shown up with renewed interest in getting this map to work despite size constraints.

Midkemia - Clicky
Start Date: July 21, 2007
Creator: Gnome
Status: Close to Final Forge

This is a map based on the fantasy world of Midkemia. All copyright concerns have been passed so this map is okay for the site. This map is also employing a new idea in not having borders and instead connecting territories with paths. This map is very close to final forge with only minor graphics tweaks remaining to be completed.

BelJoDude recently ran into some real world trouble that has slowed down development a bit, but something new this week would not be out of the question.

Berlin 1962 - Clicky
Start Date: August 4, 2007
Creator: oaktown
Status: Close to Final Forge

This map is about the city of Berlin during the Cold War in 1962. For those who don't know the Cold War was a conflict between the United States and Russia that lasted for years with small skirmishes throughout the entire world. Berlin was one of these locations. The Capital of Germany. The start time for this is slightly inaccurate as this map was initially presented as the city of Berlin from a different point of view. Recent comments about the colors have been refuted and he is near a final forge state.

Standard gameplay, no gimmicks, but lots of territories, with graphics featuring a definite Thai flavour and colours. cairnswk has posted several revisions and is very close to being done.

The Puget Sound - Clicky
Start Date: August 13, 2007
Creator: Tisha
Status: Polishing

No Change
The Puget Sound is a map of a body of water (part of the ocean actually) in Washington. This map mostly focuses on the land around the Puget Sound. The Foundry is currently awaiting another update from Tisha to clean up the army circles.

Canada REVAMP! - Clicky
Start Date: August 27, 2007
Creator: WidowMakers
Status: Polishing

WidowMakers has posted his reworked image and now the comments are few and far between, or just obscure. The only complaint in his latest map is about colors and it is hard to get what that person meant out of his post.

RAIL EUROPE - Clicky
Start Date: September 1, 2007
Creator: cairnswk
Status: Arguing over station clocks.

No Change
This is the second in the series of rail maps planned which started with RAIL USA. Gameplay is slightly different from RAIL USA with a "rail line impassable" at some stations. Close to 99 European-flavoured stations on board covering 17 Service lines. Rail colors have been added and the current debate is over how the station clocks should look.

Civil War Map - Clicky
Start Date: September 18, 2007
Creator: Elijah S
Status: Polishing Image

This is a map based around the American Civil War and was just recently moved from the foundry. Andy and others just dropped a ton of suggestions into this topic for visual improvement so hopefully Elijah S is up to the task.

Madness (OUR HOUSE) - Clicky
Start Date: September 27, 2007
Creator: cairnswk
Status: Polishing

A map based on the song Our House, also known as the Madness Song. cairnwsk posted the lyrics inside the topic. He has changed a few things to make the map have more of a CC flair. This map is undergoing the cairnswk treatment, which means constant updates of graphics and gameplay/layout as he works towards a final polished version.

MALTA Map - Clicky
Start Date: December 6, 2006
Creators: Ruben Cassar & Yeti_C.
Status: Needs Yeti_C's signature.

No Changes
Map of Malta. If you are starting to notice a trend a lot of December maps of countries were started and are just now nearing completion. The moderators' words on the status of this are vacation, but it needs Yeti_C's signature, as he is the xml artist. So it is not finished regardless.

The Netherlands - Clicky
Start Date: December 29, 2006
Creator: Lone.prophet
Status: Graphic Work

No Changes
The production time for this map of the Netherlands is a bit off base as the whole graphics portion was redone recently. The graphics are still undergoing work.

Greater China - Clicky
Start Date: January 14, 2007
Creator: Wisse
Status: Waiting for Graphic Update from Wisse

No Changes
Map of China, possibly not set in the present. Otherwise it is mostly true to native names. This map is currently undergoing some slight graphics work. Just some stray pixel cleaning.

South Africa Map - Clicky
Start Date: March 16, 2007
Creator: Crowley
Status:Waiting for Creator Update

No Changes
Map of South Africa. This map is so great it entered Final Forge in August and nobody had anything bad to say about it since. Unfortunately, Crowley has expressed an interest in providing a final update so we have to wait for that.

The Solar System - Clicky
Start Date: June 14, 2007
Creator: maxdetjens
Status: Adjusting Coordinates

No Changes
This is a map of the Solar System. Sort of. It borrows some science fiction ideas, so it is a potential future map of it. maxdetjens went missing during part of the development process due to real life getting in the way. He is now back and updating full time. The map is currently having coordinates adjusted
