Narnia

An extremely rough idea for a map of Narnia. Just gauging peoples interest before I pursue this and put more work into it.

I've read the first three books in the series and seen the movie, but I am a little lost as what to call some of the countries and continents, so I'd love to hear some suggestions.

Original image is from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Narnia_combined_different_maps.gif and free to modify under the GNU Free Documentation License. So I'm guessing that means there wont be any copyright issues?

some ideas without further throught put into them

Red= Borderlands...westernwood(as that takes up a large proportion of it..by the looks of things)

blue= errr frozen lands??

creamy yellow.= suddering wood maybe

green= witches land/empire/hold etc.

purple= same as geen but with aslan/royal
Would you choose supremecy if it lead to isolation?

It looks very strange... by the names (including some very stupid, like "Cherry Tree", lol) we imagine its a very small region (although I never heard about this thing). So, rivers in all directions look very VERY impossible. In fact, there are rivers between all continents. this is like splitted maps, like USA one, or a map of island regions, like Philippines... they are easier to get playability, but so you can make them these other ways, because all these rivers, well... as I said, very strange.

Again, do you have permission to do this? This looks a bad project from start, you dont have names, the ones you have are terrible, and the whole thing looks strange. So, maybe its better consider a map of a real region, so you dont get copyright problems, names are easier, and you can get something more simple.

lol no way! i've been thinking of this idea for like a week and i was going to post something about it today as wel. maybe it would work better if you used the map from the back of the books "narnia and the surrounding countries" and made it look nicer and think of different ways to divide it up. sort of like this one http://www.narniaweb.com/forum/uploads/kaleb70/A9255_Continent.gif i know that picture looks weird but if you've read the books it makes sense

It's based on a series of books, I'm not responsible for where rivers are or names. I haven't named anything yet, but I would keep the majority of names as they are representative of the books and hold meaning to those that have read them.

As for permission, as I mentioned in my first post, it is covered under the GNU Free Documentation License. I assume it's okay to use, I could be wrong.

I've learnt from previous map making efforts, not to get carried away on making it look pretty before making it look playable. It would look a whole lot better if I continue its development.

Maybe we should work on it together? We could use the map you provided?

Well, the image is free to use, but i don't know if the concepts are, as in are you allowed to tack on the name of Narnia, and affiliate this map with narnia??

i'm no expert, but i tihnk some people ran into problems with the intellectual property more than the acutal image itself i the past.

Ok, I'll look into it.

Does everyone agree that dcowboys055's provided map would work better, considering it covers more land mass? My only concern is the shape of the map, being so long vertically could make it a pain for scrolling. Also, we'd need to source it from somewhere that allowed us to use it.

i think if u really want to do a narnia map you should look into including the countries that surround narnia... archenland, calormen, the islands of the eastern sea, etc.
for example:

copyright is usually an issue thats brought up, but if there were no problems with making middle earth, there shouldnt b any with this.
Do you need an excuse to have a war? I mean, who for? Can't you just say "You got lots of cash and land, but I've got a big sword, so divy up right now, chop chop."

yes were already considering this map...i drew up a little sketch but im no artist so we'll see what KEYOGI can do with it. Its kind of hard to think of stuff to fill in southern narnia and most of archenland

I like the idea of covering more country than just Narnia, but we do have the issue of the size of the map. We could spin it around I suppose, make it wider rather than taller.

I agree with that idea, instead of just narnia, have the whole map, from caloreman, to the lands of the giants of the north, with narnia in the middle
you are entitled to your opinion...
that doesnt mean its right

With a lot of work it could be a really great map.

but how to divide it up into enough countries to make it playable?
i like the idea of using all of narnia and its surrounding countries(calormen, archenland, etc.)

That's basically the same map as the original I posted without the copyright issues.

I'm working an Narnia and it's surrounds (the map Enigma posted), but with life getting in the way it's taking longer than I would've hoped. I've had input from dcowboys055 and rotated it, so East is at the top of the map. I should have something to show within 24 hours.

At the moment though, I think just Narnia itself is going to be easier to make... there's a lot of empty space in the surrounding lands.

I'm working [on]...the map Enigma posted....
Mmm...I kind of hate that map because it's half ocean. If you were to do something with the ocean like in the Alexander map then it could be cool but otherwise I'm wary... Can anyone post a link or something to the big map I put up in Paint(.bmp) form? I can't drag it into my Paint, it says the format is wrong or something.

The Eastern Sea could make a great map in and of itself.
