Deal, I will go scour the books, give me a few days, and I will get as many as possible. I'll see what else I can do about it.

Let's get this rolling!

Much better than the first.

A quick thought is to use 'Home' and 'Away' and north, south... when labeling things, like the 'Away Grandstand' or the 'North East Luxury Box.' I think this would help identify the areas better.

As far as the players maybe you could do the bonuses by units, say the Away Teams Defenders are a bonus, the Home Teams Midfielders another. Holding an entire team or even the fowards/mids and the defenders/goalie could be additional.

I still think there should be more cooridor spaces and I don't like them being a penalty.

Other than that looks like you're in the right direction.

Unless you can get permission from TG to use the map, just scrap the whole idea. He's the type of guy that would make a big deal about all the copyright stuff.

Smallest Map (some help needed)

Postby andreweberman on Sun May 06, 2007 5:56 pm

This is my first attempt at a map so please be nice :lol: :wink: (I was inspired by the thread explaining how someone won free premium membership for life by making maps)

The concept and rough sketch is fairly basic, and I will need someone’s help making it operational (and to even look acceptable), but given its size it shouldn’t take anyone that knows how to do it very long.

Click on the following link to see a picture:
http://picasaweb.google.com/AndrewEBerm ... 1436198082

The idea is to create an extremely small map. There are other small maps in development, but I figured I would ā€œone downā€ them and make the smallest reasonable map. This would be good to introduce people to RT games, or for those players with many points but not enough games (they can play a few short games).

Here is a reinforcement list to help explain the bonuses
BEST CASE
Territories Equation Reinforcements
1 -> 3 – 0 = 3
2 -> 3 – 1 = 2
3 -> 3 – 1 + 2 = 4
4 -> 3 – 2 + 4 = 5
5 -> 3 – 2 + 6 = 7
6 -> 3 – 3 + 8 = 8
7 -> 3 – 3 + 10 = 10

If you have any questions or are willing to put in the ā€œleg workā€ to make this map a reality please post (or PM me if you feel more conferrable). I do ask that my name be included on the final map, but anyone willing to finalize it can obviously add theirs as well.

once upon a time people actually read what others posted.

the map shown is ONLY to give an outline of layout/territories. I wanted to get the consept and layout correct BEFORE i spend a long time on aestetics.

I would really appreciate constructive feedback/criticisms, not rude and arrogent responses :)

Too simple

Postby Eyelidman on Sun May 06, 2007 6:14 pm

A game on this map would be incredilbly boring as the stategy is so simple. All you want to do is take your starting positions and attack outwards in either direction from them. I don't think any map smaller than 18 territories would actually work in a risk game. Even 18 is pushing it.

the coridors give a penalty because of the one way access to the private boxes. as for each part of the team giving an individual bonus, i can see why that might be a good idea, but i think there is more than enough diversity in the amount of bonuses available, especially in the context of the pitch.

The Star Wars Galaxy

Postby ericwdhs on Sun May 06, 2007 7:34 pm

Since we already have maps of Middle Earth and Tamriel as well as maps of other popular fictional locations in development, I think it's only logical that someone make a map of the Star Wars Galaxy. (I'm pretty surprised it's never come up.) I'm thinking of making two versions, a large version with gameplay similar to World 2.1 (100+ planet/countries) with some added twists (hyperlane/sector/planet bonuses) and a small version with gameplay similar to Classic (around 40-50 planets/countries with conventional sectors/continents).

It has been suggested before, but I remember at least two failed attempts. It has potential, but could end up like the current space map, good luck with your try though

As of now I think I like this. But I want to see a full size rough draft but I see a lot of potential in this map and I can't wait to use it.

Please make a Star Wars map I've even requested that someone make one. But be wary this could be the worst map ever but it could truly be a great map. You should make it very large map, the closest to World 2.1 the better.

@ sfhbballnut

Mine will be a lot different. The creator of that map made a mistake turning all the planets into boxes and grouping them into continents (just another disguised classical map). He also put the planets in completely the wrong places and misspelled a lot of their names (though that doesn't matter to anyone but Star Wars fans).

I won't be grouping everything into continents like that. Everything will be in it's canonical location and bonuses will be given for holding individual industrial or commercial planets, main trade routes, and related planets. Most importantly, the galaxy will actually look like a galaxy while the planets will actually look like planets.

@ Gilligan

Well copyright won't cover anything I'll be using. All artwork will be original. The planet names have been used in countless fan works and other places so I can use them. I don't know what else I'll use but if using the name Star Wars is unavailable, I can just call the map The Galaxy Far, Far Away which isn't trademarked.

Yeah, I'll make one close to World 2.1 and a smaller version for more casual players.

I've got a sketch right now but I can't do anything with it until next weekend when finals are over. Then I'll start getting everything in place in Photoshop.
