Re: Trench Warfare

I'm not so sure that 'clearly dominating' is so easy to decide.

I was down to something like 3 terits against two other people in this one and each of them had about half the board .......

Same number of troops for deployment in round 1
[*]If at the start both have 15 territories, both get 5 armies to deploy in the first turn (plus bonuses).[/list]

Those lines contradict. It would take a lot of luck or some code to balance initial places to give everyone the same troops and ...

Re: minimum game requirements

No. No. No. You want to argue for turning off forum posting if you haven't played in x days w/e but this idea is just NO. If I don't want to play I'm not going to play. This kind of nonsense will just result in driving away intermittent -paying- players. I would be raising hell if I took a break and ...

Re: Set the amount of points for a game

ps. What this site really needs isn't wagering points, as pointed out that is madly open to abuse. What it needs is non-rated games.

The abuse is already there. What are non-rated games?

Lx

Just because abuse exists doesn't mean it should be amplified. Non-rated in your terms would be waging 0 ...

Re: Set the amount of points for a game

and if he tries a new map with new settings vs a new recruit he will gain 7 points like the current formula because his variables for the new map and new setting will be at the base value.

So basically your formula just punishes playing familiar settings. There is no counterbalancing concept to ...

Re: What's the best update in the last 4 years?

Trench Warfare

Disliked it at first, but by the time I got my medal, I liked it enough to give it a bit longer shot and w/i about 50 games decided it was much more fun. Next we need a resign button so half the games don't end in deadbeats.

That's why you use the round limits option.

That's ...

I answered many times, if you want to rationalize you can find a way. I have no interest in parsing your rationalizations. If keeping your word has no value to you there is nothing to discuss.

Re: initial drops

(1) could be coded but takes territs out of play at the start of the game, across the board. Knowing this in a fog game could provide someone an advantage. I don't think that whether someone has read the XML for a map should give them this type of advantage.

Before assigning any territs to ...

IMO you suffer either way, what's fun about a win when you know your opponent never had a chance and it has nothing to do with your abilities? It's just a waste of time either way.

Re: Trench Warfare

It's hard to have a total domination game when so many games end in deadbeat's. Playing out a game with no opponent gets very old as does deploy and end for several rounds while a finished game creeps toward a conclusion.

And how might you have handled the situation? Informing him that I was ending the truce would've resulted in him putting most of his troops on our border (and I would be unable to match this) given that there are unlimited reinforcements. I acted in the only way that would preserve my survival ...

Re: When is breaking a truce justifiable?

1. You threatened suicide. Such a threat deserved immediate action; quit skirting around this fact. I acted before you could; get over it.

I just noticed this. Your original threat about the bonus carried a built in 1 turn notice, if he took the bonus he knew the truce over.

This sounds like ...

Exactly. I think I'm perfectly justified in saying that he broke his end of the deal first when he threatened suicide.

Nope, a threat isn't an attack and the threat was clearly an action to be taken if you attacked him.

By your logic you made the first threat and you made it without giving him 1 ...
