Re: Old maps up for adoption: Time and Invasion

why not?

i have a huge respect for your work, for being the first to actually design something different than classic gameplay style. it's what inspired me to push and develop new gameplay designs in all my maps.

There's a big difference between coming up with new gameplay ideas and actually ...

Ooh, that's a very interesting idea.

Old maps up for adoption: Time and Invasion

Hi. Some of you may remember me. I made some maps here on the site a few years back. But during my time here the foundry process got a lot more involved, and it became too much work and tedium and frustration to develop a map all the way through until it could eventually be approved. So I burned out ...

Deadbeats not turning neutral

I'm not sure if this is an actual bug, or if there's just something I'm missing, but game 772733 seems a bit odd to me. The cyan and yellow players have both been kicked out for missing too many turns, but yet their armies are still colored cyan and yellow, and the log still refers to them when ...

Yeah, the map just shows the totals. If you add together your "irradiated territory" and "radiation nexus", it'll come out to what it says on the map. (In your case, that's -2 and +1, making a total of -1.)

This map looks pretty cool, i like the hexagon idea.
I personally dont like the hexagons, Hexagons have no interest for me. If you designed it as an actual island it would be better
I agree with Balsiefen, a real island would be more appealing.

Hmm. Getting rid of the hexagons completely ...

The country names are too big... The names cover parts of the borders and make it hard to see what touches what.

Hmm, alright. I had hoped that the hexagonal structure would make it clear, but I'll try reducing the names a bit.

It is REALLY BORING visually.
It needs more pics/textures/whatever ...

I dont see the problem with giving choice to play big maps to the actual players instead of the admins or cartographers.

It's not about whether or not players are given the choice to play on big maps. It is about whether or not players are given the choice to play on small maps. Lack might well ...

I suspect that in many cases, if your map is too awesome to fit within the guidelines, then maybe it might actually be a better map if it were a little less awesome.

Not just any bonus, but a bonus of 600 armies -- that'd be practically equivalent to declaring a win. (I'd advise against 6000, though, on the grounds that it'll look terrible against the army shadows.)

Jota...can i ask are you going to make this correction to the XML army tool checker that enables us to see where the armies are centred by changing the country to territory on that tool?, please. :)

Despite the fact that lack's not currently looking for ideas for new XML features, I'd still like to express my support for gimil's proposal, in case lack does want more work to do in the future. The different sides should be randomly allotted, of course, and if there are few enough players (e.g ...

I looked up the word picayune on wiki, Britannica, and a random guy who happens to have read the dictionary... Hmm. We do have twice as many people voting for change as there are voting against it. That's a pretty big margin, but I'll let it go for a few more days before making a decision. (I figure if it ends up close to even, I'll leave it as it is.) If I do change it, that leaves the question of whether ...

(And yes, I do think that making it hundreds of hexes in size and giving bonuses based on holding large masses of contiguous territory would definitely make things more interesting, and could be a great step towards making the map something more than "just a hex grid".)

I disagree on it being a gimmick.

Then what you and I consider to be a "gimmick" are probably two different things. I consider "based on a Crossword puzzle" to be just a gimmick. "A map with extra bonuses for holding capital cities" is a gimmick. Heck, even "Ancient Greece" is a gimmick, when you ...
