The key is to make it so that you are less likely to be knocked out by another player. If everyone is playing semi-wisely, this can create an interesting game. If one player screws up, it can throw off the balance. Again, as mentioned above, the key is to preparing to be ready to strike when the ...

Don't encourage bad strategies.

exactly

If it's legal and it works, how is it a bad strategy?

Personally, it's not something I do. Why? Because I want to actually play, not sit around for weeks in a game just so that I get an advantage.

I suppose you might make a case for calling it a ...

The thing I have found distasteful about non-escalating games is that it's easy to make a mistake and not be able to make a comeback. I like the idea of a nice long game, but not when it's long and I'm slowly losing the whole time!

Re: PRO-RATA SCORING SYSTEM

In theory, I just don't like spending 3 weeks and then gain no points - IN FACT LOOSE POINTS - even when I was 2nd place and was the best player beaten by mistake (again, in theory).

No offense, but I don't agree with the concept that someone could take "2nd place" in Risk. It's a winner-take ...

People don't always avoid premium because they're poor. I could afford it, but know that I wouldn't be able to control myself. I have too much of an addictive personality!

You guys call him arrogant, when the fact is not a single thing he said was far from being absolutely accurate.

I think you have to play as if:

a) the dice could go wrong at any moment

-and-

b) some idiot could screw things up at any moment

I, personally, haven't had any major problems with dice. I've had plenty of headaches with other players, but I consider that to be a part of the game. I say ...

Let's not forget that just because there are dice involved, that does not make Risk a game of chance. It takes a lot of strategic skill to plan a win despite the possibility of having bad dice.

I don't like the concept that 1 army always defeats 1 army because that's not at all like real life. It ...

may be a stupid question, but can you program it so that when i hit refresh the screen stays in the same place?

i.e. you're reading the in-game chat and you hit refresh...instead of seeing the top of the screen you stay focused on the chat.

also, in this case, people could keep their eyes on ...

change it back

On the one hand, those who are complaining that, for example, all the private games are on the top could simply filter them out using the game finder options.

On the other hand, I like it better the old way. I like to set up a game and watch and see if any newer games come along that are filling ...

I like the neutrals, too. It adds a new twist on the strategy of the game. You can win a game without ever taking certain areas, but leaving them as a buffer.

I found the IRTOC site and their rules for the 19th Annual Risk Tournament of Champions.

Rule #3 is the no alliances, no hinting and no negotiations, which becomes a moot point
once you discover the competition employs ESCALATING CARD SETS (rule #15).

I think it's stupid that they don't allow ...

What the hell do you think freestyle is man. It's completely part of the game, hell, it is the game. Where else do you get the advantage. Learn to play them and you'll understand them. Sometimes it you need to go first, sometimes last, now and then it doesn't matter. Cheap? This is Risk, War ...

This is not cheap - its a perfectly fair part of a freestle game. If you dont like it, dont play freestyle but i think it adds to the game myself.

NO!!! FFS you have the brain of a 2yearold. I offer truces to weak players so that i can take advantage of them. I suggest them to find out who is willing to trust me and then take what i wanted and win.

Once again...yes, the reason why most people make truces is to gain some sort of advantage ...
