Re: Indian Empire [Quenched]

Sorry for the necro - I love this Indian Empire map. Thanks to those who remembered mine at the beginning of the thread. This Indian Empire map is far and away the best of 'em.

I think I'll play it!

Think it just needs a title and maybe a frame around the legend.

I've never been a graphic artist before this map so it's been a great effort to get the map how it is and I've run out of steam now. Also, now I have only GIMP to work with which is not got the best tool for map-making.

I like the map and would like to see it go live, as would others, it has some ...

Excellent idea!

Not done anything yet.

Maybe won't do anything for another week either so if you have good ideas still time to make them.

Just to note I'm considering "Decay Territories" and "Max Troop Limit" XML - both of which lack has written "YES" by in the new XML thread.

BTW Andy thanks again for the comments!

Well lets see what we've got here!

First off, I notice you've got a lot of dead space, due to the shape of India. Are you going to work on a title for say...the top right? I think something could be done there, and it would be very proper.

Also, you've got interesting things working against each ...

Would anyone who has yet to post in this thread like to comment on this map?

First impressions etc.

If you're new don't be frightened, will treat you gently :P I'm asking for those new to this map for fresh insight.

KEYOGI, I'd appreciate it if you took the time to give the map a more detailed look over.

You think you can pick it apart - go on, try. I'd love to capitalise on any useful suggestions you may have for this map.

If you like put your suggestions in the context of those 5 points I previously ...

Well there are some issues that have been raised to discuss in the meantime.

1. Continent bonus - Himalayas - 3 or 2
2. Continent bonus - Colonialists - 5 or 4
3. Add new XML ideas to map?
4. Key - background (such as?) or plain?
5. 35 territory map. Okay? (Yes, it's a small map, for 3-5 ...

Thanks for continuing the suggestions.

When I get the nod from Andy I will continue with any issues that remain on the development of this map.

KEYOGI has provided useful suggestions all the way through this thread but KEYOGI - though a mod - does not have final say on whether a map is ...

Cheers.

I just remember back to the beginning of the thread when I was told there was already an Indian map in development.

I argued - I thought successfully - that this map was original in its own right. Has the Himalayan continent, different borders, names style.

I'm willing to put more ...

Putting no more work into this until I get some official word on how it looks, if only so next time I know what to do different. Think that's only fair on the map maker.

That's not to say I think it looks bad. Just that in contrast to what one might expect from other map threads there has be no ...

sure you can, by pushing out toward the ganges which would keep your borders at 2, then hop from colony to colony and once thats locked up you have a +8 for defending 4 territories. might as well grab bengell too, increase your borders by 1 and bonus by 2.. then you start your turn with a ...

Also I still say Himalayas should have a bonus of two. I realize you have said you are trying to direct the gameplay, but I believe whoever holds this area has a supreme advantage.

It has 4 countries with 2 countries needing defending, with only 3 territories able to attack it, from 3 different ...

Re: XML Modifications and Variations

Suggestion Idea: Max troop limit

Description: Allow the map maker to select designated territories which can only be occupied by a certain amount of troops.

Why It Should Be Considered: It will allow for ideas like my paratroopers idea to exist without being abused. It could be used on maps to ...

Re: Decay Territories

An alternative variation to this idea could be troop loss only occurs when you move into the territory or deploy ...

I've done a lot of minor polishing myself so, for example, there should not be stray pixels along the borders.

Andy has been very busy recently. I don't expect a response this week. I would expect one after the next maps are quenched and he has a look at candidates for final forge.

The Luxor/Darfur border does look wierd. I know it's like that on the existing map, but since borders won't be changed would not some curvature be within the remit of improving the presentation of the map?

Not an essential change but it would improve the look of the Egyptian continent.

Coordinates adjusted. Look better? The circles are an irregular shape due to image processing I can't control (all the circles are identical, but become different when saved), so on many with the number in centre, there's 2 pixels on one side, and one pixel on the other. Don't want the circles ...

Add the army shadows I think you could get into the crayon style. Totally.

For me though, 18 territories is too few.
