Well since Rodion nameclaimed Pedobear, I think we have a convenient test case here. Now whether or not claiming your real name as mafia is what he's doing is WIFOM. That said, it could be considered a good way try and gauge what sort of memes would be mafia. Inherently, I don't see pedobear as malicious. Disturbing at times yes, but anyone who's browsed the 4chan boards has seen much worse. I don't think it warrants a vote at this point from me, but it does fall into the so called "mafia" aligned memes outlined in the list, though it's not as clear as say the troll memes.

I still think that speculating on roles and possible alignment won't hurt us as long as we're not dumb about it. This is a game of information-gathering so I don't understand why people are voting me for trying to gather information. I'm sticking by my guns on this one.

I agree. Just because a PR isn't gamebreaking in and of itself doesn't mean it isn't relevant. Tal basically hid in plain sight with a self imposed PR in Resort and Evil Chef's M.O. in South Park was imposing the soup PR. So I'm with kwan on this one, we can't discount PR's. No doubt some are town, some are mafia. Still relevant.

I'm willing to bet a fingernail that every player (at least every player with powers) has a PR of some sort in this game. Rodion got it right before, he's a dawg with a good head on his shoulders, in a vampire-themed mafia you can't give the scum PRs about how much the love to drink blood. In a meme-themed mafia you can't give the scum "evil" memes and PRs that reveal what meme they are, that'd be game-breaking.

It's more probable that some memes are conspiring, or that one group of similar memes is working together, but the possibilities there are endless or even OVER 9000!!!!! So it's pretty much useless to speculate about details, even more so that trying to identify "evil" memes. Just saying, it's an easy way of balancing the game and allowing for widespread PRs.

You dawgs are of course free to put together your le list of what meme any given player might have been assigned, but don't even pretend to be hunting for scum in our base with that. I am somewhat disappoint that you would even consider it a realistic means of finding scum.

And Kwanton wins the grand prize. Either Medefe has a meme that incorporates more than one other memes or it would appear he is trying to confuse us as to his actual meme. I also am unnerved by this whole let's ignore flavor spec thing. I'm more willing to jump on medefe for this than rody (I've played with Rody when he has been scum and his actions as scum tend to be more well thought out. His rant seems to me to be a bit careless and more connected with becoming irritated rather than scum-intent) or sens who as I remember tends to draw suspicion onto himself when scum or town. I've said this before but once we have a better idea of what memes are in the game, we will have a better idea of what we are looking at that and I think medefe is a bit quick to undersell that.

I don't see how Squirrel thinking Medefe's position has made the most sense so far is confusing/incompatible/incoherent.

As far as Medefe mixing memes, THAT is interesting. I see 3 options:
a) character is related to role - Medefe realizes his character is easily associated with a town power role and wants to preserve himself by consufing us with several PRs
b) character is related to alignment - Medefe realizes his character is easily associated with an anti-town alignment and wants to preserve himself by confusing us with several PRs
c) PCM/Commander gave him a hybrid meme or a "metameme" (a meme about other memes) of sorts

My knowledge about my role PM allows me to conclude it is not "b" as far as the" 'evil memes' are mafia" theory goes. I think I know how to better understand this, though. It's just a matter of time.

Dawg, scum is a power role (at the very least they get to talk to each other by PM), too, and I just mentioned it as a possibility since PRs have been tied to powers in some way in every game I've played in (excluding this one, about which I will make no statements either way). What you say about non-vanilla is true, I consider that a possiblity to motivate people to try and observe their PRs, maybe a single VT for teh lulz.

Well I'll throw out a very recent example then. TeamCC mafia, streaker was a VT with a PR. Insane, but doesn't change the fact that he was VT. I've seen town and mafia have PR's. I've seen VT's and power roles have PR's. The existence or lack of a PR is not something that we can use to guess alignment or powers. Certainly it can be used for ID'ing individual memes, but it should not reveal much more than that in a properly balanced theme game.
