I hardly ever join public games filled with new people anymore. Why? I usually get targeted at some point for being a higher ranked player in the game. I can usually win if someone doesn't suicide on me (which usually happens in those games I find... especially when I run my mouth

). But many times, you're targeted right out of the gate for being higher ranked in a relatively low ranked game.
I think it also works the other way around. People will target low ranks because you'll lose far more points losing to a cook than a colonel.
I agree. Maybe if the high ranking player has a bad attitude or maybe if he's in an extremely strong position it is possible though.
Anyway currently I'm maintaining lieutenant really well. It's been over 3-4 months I think and I do mostly casual 1v1s. I play feudal, aors, das scloss, poland, etc. but previously I did play a lot of fs doodle. And I accept most maps and settings on live chat. When I was premium playing speed fs I maintained a low major pretty easily, which I consider pretty decent; and this brings me to my point.
As most mention, playing 1v1s won't get you very far but I believe if you inject freestyle, especially while playing speeders, you'll be able to maintain a pretty high rank. FS eliminates a lot of the luck and places a lot more emphasis on strategy, sometimes changing the entire way the game's played. This allows people to maintain high ranks even on simple maps like classic especially if you're fast enough.
EDIT: Sorry if this is gravedigging was searching for something else and didn't see the timestamps XD
