I don't mean to go off topic, and I'm not trying to be obtuse or a smartass, but what is the fascination with haikus? Seems like an arbitrary cadence that could have just as easily been something else. Perhaps there's something I don't know that would enlighten me.

Haikus are an ancient Japanese art. They are a compact form of poetry, that has much to do with the simplistic Japanese aesthetics... Haikus are basically saying very much in very few words. At first glance they seem pointless, but if you really contemplate on them... ah hell, whatever. It's just fun to write haikus!
