This is probably a really stupid question, but if I was interested in spending some time trying to make a map, how would I go about doing it? Do people use existing maps and alter them or generate an entirely new map from scratch?

The actual rank you have is arbitrary, in my opinion. Just because you made captain or major out to be some big deal doesn't mean anything really changed. You are still ranked _______(insert number) on this site, and whether we call them all privates or colonels that won't change.
the stars *** between territories and strength - what do those mean? I've noticed players either have 1,2 or 3 stars. Also, how is Card Set Estimate calculated and why would this be useful? The variance is so high that it seems to negate any mathematical value.
I was just compiling some personal stats and found that I've only beaten a handful of boards more than 5 times even though I've played almost all of them.
I've only played about 500 games though.
