I attack someone and it said this is an illegal move and took away my armies?

sounds to me like yu tried to take another territory but just before yu clicked someone took your territory - this would explain the illegal move as yu know longer owned that territory and this can happen as the game is not allways refreshing so what you see on the map could be not quite right.

was someone else taking there turn at that time?

I thought that to but it was a normal feudal war game and no one else was taking there turn.
