Alrighty, you make an alliance for lets say 5 rounds, the player you've made the alliance with is becoming way too powerful than you and the other player combined (3 player game). Your truce is for 1-2 more rounds, but if you wait that long, he'll turn in his cards, pretty much have it WON. Respect the truce and lose? or break it, and just for kicks let's say the guy has a (quite) higher score than you...
This is what's going on in my game, only I'm the one taking over, and not sure if this guy is gonna keep it....
If you make an alliance you should always respect it and if you were stupid enough to make one that cost you the game it is your own damn fault. Generally i just don't make alliances but if I do I never make it absolute. Say I am in s. America and I ally with some one who has n. America. Make a border alliance between Venezuela and Central America which still leaves you the option of attacking them through Kamchatka if or Iceland if they get too powerful.
I have an IQ of 195. Of course my answers are different!
You're only as good as your word, so I never break a truce regardless of how the situation changes. If you aren't capable of keeping up your end of the bargain, don't do it in the first place.
if you make such a long truce in a 3 man game your a fool to start.
If you break a truce OR EVEN CONSIDER it your a liar AND a fool.
truces are occasionally worth negotiating but the terms have to be clear. Once agreed they should be 100% maintained.
i have broken 2 truces in my time - - BOTH completey accidental as i was in 70 plus games, didnt read chat and didnt realise i had a truce. On both occassions i immediately forfeited the game and suicided as best i could - - accidents happen. Deliberate abuse does not!!
I think you can get out of it only after you post up in chat that the truce is off... but of course only as long as you do it before the other people in the pact take their turns (i.e., you have to be last at the table once you dissolve the truce.)
I've seen a couple of "balance of the game" truces. Those almost always end with one side attacking the other and then explaining AFTER that the truce if off. I consider that weak, but I wouldn't leave a negative - it's a stupid truce to beging with.
don't make alliances especially alliances that are detrimental to your strategy. oh and if you do make alliances never break them, honour is more important than points.

i agree with the first part. don't make alliances. period. if you want a team game, join a team game.-0

I'm usually the one being made alliances against.... so I get pretty mad since I play alotta 3 player games, so the several times I make an alliance, only if it's a big disadvantage in setup or dice rolls, I think I can take a couple alliances myself here and there....
You can always say, "I'm calling the truce off at the start of next round." You haven't signed a contract, but you should let a person defend against what will be coming. There is a middle option here folks...
I remember back when I was running in a gang, and we had to take out a lot of motherfuckers what would be doin' shit against our turf. Those motherfuckers, we'd just catch them somewhere, or drive by they house, and just kill those motherfuckers, it didn't matter. Because they weren't shit, you dig?
But this one time Lil Ray didn't want to be a part of shit no more- he wanted to get his ass into community college, and from there go to a state school or some shit like that. We told him we were gonna kill him, because he knew too much so we like had to. But we wanted to give him a chance, you know? Not just walk up and shoot his ass in front of his apartment complex. But that's what we ended up doing anyway. But we told him we were gonna do it- I like to think he had sex with his girlfriend a few times or something.

Brilliant!

Truces are generally about extending the game and creating better opportunities when the chips are down. I've made lots of truces and if that makes me a girly-man... fine by me. I have no problem with it. There are also unspoken truces/alliances, where no communication is necessary. It's simply an understanding between experienced players who understand the situation and do what needs to be done.
well its simple... you either stand true to your word, maybe lose a few points, or go back on your word, sell your soul, lose your self respect, and compromise any principles for a few points....
i wouldnt recommend any specific treaties in the future... 5 rounds is pretty dangerous... perhaps suggest you wont attack until another is under control, but agreeing to not attack, essentially no matter what happens in five rounds, is simply suicidal, unless of course you know youll be the one in his position.
I'm Spanking Monkey now....err...I mean I'm a Spanking Monkey now...that shoots milk Too much. I know.
And topdog, I wouldnt break a truce.Seeing you getting bigger would make me think of a preemptive defensive solution/plan If I think it might benefit/save me, I would ask if it's ok to cancel the truce. Maybe offer something in exchange, like attacking a certain country.
