Volunteer; I dislike the 'pip', as I'm familiar with this indicating a more senior rank. Could this be a really thin bar? Private; should still be a bent stripe v Private first class; v + pip Corporal; two stripes « Corporal first class; two stripes + pip Staff Sergeant; I'm not too keen on the red stripe; perhaps we could have a pip in the same place as the current Sgt 1st Class - and the new Sgt 1st Class as you've got it here. Sgt 1st Class; the pip needs to be the same colour on the freemium version - as does the star on Sgt Major. Warrant Officer; this icon looks out of place with the progression. Major; this could be confused with a 'posh' private - perhaps introduce plain swords here? Or, Warrant Officer could be ¤; Lieutenant ¤¤; Captain ¤¤¤; Major ¤¤¤¤ (current Captain icon) Lieutenant Colonel; Could be plain swords Colonel; Swords & star (your Lt. Col.) Brigadier; I'd make the coloured band slightly thinner, to be the same as Major General , or you could have swords here too?? Lieutenant General; Again, I'd make the coloured band slightly thinner.
Other comments: We've forgotten about the Conqueror rank! I thought we could add a scout between a cook and volunteer, with a fleur-de-lis icon?
Okay, a minor issue, but cooks are hardly the bottom rungs of the military any longer .. if they ever really were. (armies move on their stomaches, after all).
Why not change it to something truly on the bottom -- like "apprentice cadet" or some such.?
.. just a thought.
What about a TRULY bottom rung for those with under 200 points (you have to work to get that low). .. .something like "deadbeat", "traitor", "coward" ... even "latrine cleaner" ... etc.
looks great but luitenant colornal looks a bit fuzzy and hard to tell which rank was highest if you dont know allready if that makes sense
Well when i first time play RISK,i also dont know what rank icon present, and i go to INstruction.
yes but some of us lower ranks are not used to these high ranks and even if we have read the instructions (which i clearly have) its easy to forget whether a start with a flame behind is higher than a start with something else behind... get it?
Top Rank: Captain Top Score: 1835 Top Pos: 1707 Nothing ventured... nothing gained
MrBenn can you show these visualy(pictures say better then words )

I like the second set of ranks the best (from on the first page).
I'd say the last ranks look okay, but I don't like the dark shadows. Somehow they seem less shiny and more flat than the first couple sets.

I prefer the current style of insignia. They have a 'classic' or 'real' look to them. The majority of the suggested insignia have an almost cartoon look to them.
New insignia could be designed by the introduction of an oak leaf cluster surrounding the existing insignia to denote one half rank up. (In the same way that current field marshall equals current Generals star + oak leaf cluster)

I agree, what's wrong with the style we use now? Other than this thread, I've never heard any complaints about it.
The biggest change I've suggested is the creation of several 'junior' ranks. About 90% of players have a score below 1600, so this structure will give the majority of players some new targets to achieve. It would be nice to have some more discussion about this - there was plenty a while ago...
i love the idea of adding new ranks. making the ranks at the end of the list(higher ones) harder to achive. it would also be cool instead of just the "conquerer" make the top 10 people on the site a class.
you certainly need to differentiate between leftenent (phonetically) colonel and colonel. they are almost indistinguishable!
the rest.. you know i am used to the ranking as they are (again) but i can see a change may be worthwhile in the future and there are some lovely insignias there.
In my mind, the idea was to add some ranks to distinguish between the multitude of players on 'average' ranks; the thought being to add more ranks where the bulk of players are to give them extra incentive/something to strive to achieve.. I have churned through the scoreboard to get a feel for the balance of scores, and have come up with the following suggestion: You'll notice that I have come up with something that vaguely correlates to the current structure - although instead of bulking out the higher ranks, effectively this has created some 'half-ranks'...
