I've been point dumping.

Post by JimRocky »

Though not intentionally. I just keep losing many and winning few. Had a 16 games losing streak not long ago, with numerous seven to twelve game losing streaks peppered all in there lately.

I guess I'm losing my ability to think clearly and my inability to maintain any decent rank at all anymore is just another symptom.

It used to be easy to always be a LT, and even higher from time to time, with only a few drops to Master Sarge every now and again. I wonder what happened.

Any suggestions to help? I already know the obvious stuff like, "You suck", or the insults, so need need to expound upon them.
Just positive suggestions would be appreciated.

Maybe some gifted among you have the capability to analyze my games played and point out a major flaw or some overlooked strategy I could experiment with. That kind of thing. I realize, "Who has time to give a rats ass about his problems; I've got my own", might be thought by some. I understand. You never know though, some find interest in a mental challenge, so no harm to ask.

PM Wacicha. He runs the Society of the cooks. It has helped me a ton.

game choice and map choice invariably will decide your rank...not to say you can play them poorly...but without even looking, you are probably playing games with low likelyhood of winning...

ok, now that ive looked its not what i expected... all 4 player and above..and many 8 player... those are tough games, especially on escalating...you win 1out of 8 at best on the big ones, so you pretty much have to win every single one that you can

i think you already posted the problem...probably time to concentrate more...or just have fun...but you wont be winning any points without stepping up a notch...good luck

I'm finding what's helping me is to master a map. Find something thats somewhat difficult, (but not nucking futs like waterloo...) and truly learn the ins-and outs.
Then do a lot of one on one speed. It's slow going, but steady and it helps supplement points from other losses on other maps.

Lately I've been focusing on New World, and I find my rank isn't dipping anymore. I'm only loosing 20% and I snag the occasional officer. The only drawback I find is that the games I set up are joined by a lot of lower ranks, and you can't find a lot of joy by smacking out those that are first time players on that particular map.

Cheers!

John

this is just a false statement. the assault cubes have nothing to do with your rank. it is just a myth and common excuse used by many that feel this game is rigged, thus they can't win... the black jesus has spoken...-0

If you've "noticed" this, then you're simply not paying very good attention.

As to the original poster, it's probably game-type. I play pretty exclusively large-number (4-8) player games, with the majority being 8-player. I do that, because frankly I find them more challenging and far more enjoyable. And I've resigned myself to the fact that I will never have a high rank at all. Your mileage may vary.

if you want win more often, play 1v1s. there's a 50-50 chance of winning, rather than playing a 8 person game, where your chances of winning are 12.5%. playing new recruits bumps your chances up to probably 80 or 90% =P

As a few others have suggested, get good at a few maps or settings, that you can reasonably expect to gain points from, and play a few of these with whatever else to maintain points.

Also, get in with some reliable teammates. Team games have less point swings, and then you have someone else to cover your mistakes.

Thirdly, DON'T play 1v1 to maintain rank. Instead, try to have a nice mix, some 1v1, some 8 player games, some terminator.

Finally, don't overlook terminator games. If you are decent, you almost always come out with some points.

I suggest that you win instead of loose, that usually helps gain points. : ) Joking, JR actually made a good point about learning a map. Even learning a particular style helps too. If you go from playing standard to playing team games, your score will go down till you learn how to play them. You can win with any style on any map, but you have to be familiar with that style and that map.

For anyone to give you more helpful advice you should post what games you play, what map, number of players, etc. Then you may get more specific advice.

Ah, well. Herpes is a rape specialist.

However, that being said the man has some sound tactics. He does play higher ranks and does beat them more than often. Noob farmer? Yup. But as much as I disaprove of the mans method, he has a core of skill.

That and he rips shit up in flame wars. Hilarious to read. Not that theres any serious competition there atm.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have never done well at 1v1. Dunno why. I guess I just don't 'get it' or something. So that probably won't help me unless I devote time to learning it better. That would likely require a further point investment.

I'd like to try the teams games, but I don't have anyone to team up with regularly. I want to avoid joining a pick up team against the preformed swat teams, since that sounds like a suicide mission.

There are some maps that I tend to do well on but I want to play maps that I haven't won on mostly. I'd like to get the gold Cross Map medal since I'm getting close. I do play some old favorites in the mix though. It also seems to me, that a truly good player, (which I'd like to be), should be able to perform well on any battlefield.

I've actually just started playing more terminator games since there's a medal to be had there too. It is nice to get a few points sometimes so that even if you lose you get something or lose less. It's a bit anticlimactic though if you actually win the game and then imagine the points you could have had.

Thanks again for the input. Feel free to add more. If you are a genius with access to Big Blue feel free to have it analyze my play and return a full report on the proper strategy for any given situation. Just don't feel sorry for me and let me win if we find ourselves at the table. I want to win 'cause I could. :)
