Shadowlands (Formerly "Big Map")

Post by RjBeals »

Anyone like this?
I want to do a fictional 100+ territory map. I'm kind of creating as I go with this.

looks cool dude -- but can i put in a simple request that the names of the fictional terr.'s be at least somewhat anglicized. looking at the names that you have so far i'm getting a fantasy type vibe. this gives me tired head.

It looks great and I love it … but I'd rather see Iron Curtain finished than this tbh

considering that at the moment there is no room to write the bonuses, maybe we just have a huge map with no bonuses

Qwert - I'm not sure I want to finish the Iron Curtain map. It was suppose to be a partnership between Ruben and myself, but it fizzled out. I still want to do a large map, but would rather not be bound by true geography / history. I'm not feeling that map now, and would prefer not to pick it back up at the moment.

The legend will be very simple and in the bottom left area. There will be some method of moving from the edges of the broad (like transporters or something) to make it more accessible. Haven't thought that far yet.

I was hesitant to even post this because it's so rough, and there is no theme or reason to it yet. The blocks for impassibles were simply a test, but they will probably be mountain ranges and rivers. The colors I was experimenting with, and thinking maybe a larger bonus to hold all the yellow areas (sort of like world 2.1).

bry - go ahead and post your idea. I'm sure it's a lot different than this.

Also - I'm leaving the territs big enough so the small map will not be a problem.

And finally, this is just an idea, and not ready for the drafts forum yet. I just wanted to float it here to get some initial reactions. As you can probably tell, I've been busy and not in the foundry much recently. I like to have a map in my back pocket to work on. I'm going to pickup Brazil also. But this may take a while for slowly work on.

YAY!! a new 100+ terit map!! I'm happy + excited! please do it!

and i really like the idea of sub-continents which add up for a greater bonus, just a fan of that gameplay, and i only know of 2 maps that do it - almost makes me want to do a fictional area like that of my own, just i'm not competent enough for that yet.....

good luck!

I'm not posting in the drafts forum yet because I'm still unsure on territory count, impassibles, and bonus regions. But it's worth posting here for any feedback thus far.

Also - for some reason, CC is resizing my jpg's. If you right click the image and "view image" you'll get to see it in it's true resolution.

Oo-la-la. Sweet. I don't like the boxy impassable borders, though. They don't suit the map very well.

that was a test. I was going to use mountains, but a map of this size, and with all these territories bordering each other, I will need a lot of impassibles to keep the game fair. I sort of don't want mountains everywhere. THats why i tried the blocks. Plus the blocks are easy to copy and paste and literally "build" walls where I want them.

This looks great but change your impassible's look. Great idea!

I've already gotten some feedback on my wall style. Some like, some don't. Anyone else care to chime in? I know this is really early, and this isn't even in the drafting room yet - but I still would like a couple of comments. My plans are to balance out the bonus regions more. I'm also going to but a big river right down the center of the map, between the yellow/green and yellow/red areas, leading to that lake. Connect with a few with bridges. Add a theme, not an overwhelming theme, but just to give it an edge. But in the meantime, any feedback on the wall? Is it too sharp?

Good start, but you should split up some of the larger bonus areas.
