Which types of map would you most like to see?

Post by Tupence »

I've had quite a few ideas for various maps going round in my head, but I don't know what the Foundry or the general CC player wants the most. Please discuss the poll options or any other ideas you have.
Important Tournament Notice

The data for ALL of my tournaments has potentially been lost. I am working to recover it but as I am away on business all of this week, there will be some delay. Sincere apologies.

When i see this poll i think about an old Coleman's poll and ,after 2 years, it should be interesting to know what people here around want to play.
Anyway, my first vote is for large maps, i'd like to see more maps developed for large games, but also i'm a big fan of 1vs1 games and obvioulsy i'm always happy to see a new small map to kick some butts ;) (2nd vote)
My third vote is for Historical maps, some mapmakers have developed some maps based on the WWII and WWI , but i think we have a lot of historical events that could be put on a map. (for example my austro hungarian empire  )

Sad, only three options :(
Sport maps is another interesting type, not already covered in CC,but i talked a bit with DJ Teflon about his Football (Soccer) map and .... wow is nice! Also,I'd like to understand the cricket map by cairnswk....but cricket and italy don't go properly hand in hand.

Sports Style Maps: I toyed with making a Baseball stadium map before settling on Japan for the project I'm currently working on. This is one of the few massive holes in the maps we have here for map themes. Considering how many sports related tournaments get made, I really am surprised we don't have more maps based on sporting events. It will be interesting to see how current discussions on sports maps go. (Cricket, Darts, and Football)

Historical Maps: NOT WWII That well has been pumped dry...(after Poland WWII is quenched) I'm liking Industrial Helix's map on the American Revolution, and the Flanders 1302 map by DubWarrior and hope it will lead to a broader historical map selection.

Other: I'm a big believer in "Classic" gameplay and hope more general geographical type maps of unique areas of the globe (or other globes...) make it into the Foundry. I know unique areas are getting a little harder to get support for these days but if we could better track which maps are being used we could see which maps are being played on and how often games are being played on these maps. Even if you take out the "Classic" maps I bet the numbers will come back that those maps with that gameplay style get used the most.

I like novelty maps... but also like seeing people use the game engine to create entirely new types of games. The research & conquer map idea is a great basis for how you might use the system to make a game that is a combination of CC and a turn based strategy game. Das Schloss is another example of how creative use of the map, and the xml can create a rather unique experience. I personally set out to create a completely different game experience with my Conquer 500 and Monsters! maps.

I voted other because I like classic style maps in general. Not too small, not too large, nice and simple. There can never be enough of those.

I also wouldn't mind seeing a pure capture the objective map, where you can't take out your opponents. I haven't really studied what happened to Das Schloss though.

what i really want to see more of is basic, basic maps. I mean maps that have enough territories to not be almost entirely luck based; maps that have no bombardments and minimal one-way attacking; maps where your objective consists entirely of taking a good position on the map and working your way out from there. I like to turtle, so I'd really like to see a map that has simply a TON of chokepoints - so many you don't know what to do with them, just because i'm curious how that would pan out. I joined CC because i like Risk, and with CC i can get 4 games at a time free playing it with people who are generally pretty good and who like to play. So, for as long as i'm too cheap to buy premium (which, i actually seriously considered it the other day, when i was bored in class and had no turns to take...) my four games will be devoted to classic-gameplay maps. I'm trying, however, to get involved with the foundry as time allows, just cause it's a really interesting process to watch...

wow, sorry for the essay...

"Maps" which focuses on topology (graph).
(See viewtopic.php?f=127&t=100997 )
(On maps the neighbourness is sometimes clear, sometimes a bit hidden (for example partially unpassable, but not entirely..))
Okay that this game comes from maps, but what matters is the topology, and we can enhance the visibility (visualization) of the topology, why not to do?
(I would stain the whole node to the player's color, too. For visibility.)
