I don't know what my opponent is doing!!

Post by Ishihara »

Ok, I have a question for everyone. I'm in a three person game and am one of the last two players. I've been in a very weak position for multiple rounds and my opponent is... is... well, he's toying with me. He could have easily finished the game several turns ago but seems to... well, seems to enjoy watching me suffer. It's a slow, painful way to die, frankly, and I'm left to wonder how one gets out of these endgames. Do I simply have to wait for the more experienced player to get bored of me? Here's the link to the game - please, help a newbie out and tell me what you think. Thanks in advance!

EDIT - ok, my opponent finished me off finally. But he still took about a half dozen turns more than he needed to. So I guess my question becomes this - how do I rate this person? He won the game, so I want to rate him well, but I'm thinking about the Irrational tag. Is this warranted?

I looked through the game log, and I don't see anything unusual. If he was stalling, he would have started taking neutral territories. I think he was just playing cautiously, or had bad dice.

I would rate him all 1 stars because he could of played way better. I also would put him on my foe list. Hope this helped. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

In a 3 way escalating game you don't want to leave a third player extremely weak and open to the second player. He was probably making sure of the kill before he tried.

yea, what you described is called holding someone hostage in a game...and it's against the rules. But it doesn't seem to me like that's what was happening. I think this guy was just playing it conservative, time was on his side..and sometimes if you attack too far, you can actually hurt your position.

I do understand the risk involved in going for the kill. Unfortunately, it's hard to see from the game log how he had multiple turns with 20-30 armies against my 1 army zones and decided to pitch a tent, cook dinner and relax a bit before moving on. I'm not terribly upset or anything, I was just wondering if there was any other possible motive besides toying with me a bit that he may have had. My thanks to all that replied and helped out this newbie.

Wha...??!??!!!

Holding someone hostage is against the rules? That happens all the time in assassin games if you corner someone that's not your target. Can you point to the instructions where it says this pearljamrox2?

I don't think it applies in that situation.
But here it is:

Rules wrote:Obviously any gross abuse of the game is forbidden. This includes but is not limited to: throwing games or deliberately benefiting from thrown games, intentional deadbeating, holding players hostage, serial teammate killing, hijacking accounts, systematically "farming" new recruits.

I wouldn't expect more from someone with that rank. Plus that map is hard anyway.

what ur talking about is not so much holding a player hostage... its strategy to win the game.. holding a player hostage is having 2 players left in a game and u own all the map and just wont finish off the game... usually this is used against a freemium to hold up a game spot..
