Re: Rodion's WCCL - AUCTION STAGE - BATCH 8/9 - 1 MANAGER NE

Post by dman007 »

well, ive read most of everything on bidding and would make a good manager. i do know that entering in this late that im not going to get the picks that i may have wanted but in week two could possibly upgrade or resign my players to an extension. anyways, i would have fun with it. let me please. you have the option to decline but i would like the change to show my managing skills. plus, it would be something new for me to do. i get tired of playing games all the time. ty dman007

Chariot of Fire wrote:I'm sorry to say I owe a huge apology to both Rodion and the Manager who successfully bid for me. At the time of posting my interest in participating in this tourney I had no idea it would start as late as it's looking to, plus I wasn't planning a six week trip to Europe either. If I remain in the tourney it wouldn't be me playing my turns, so for this reason (above all others) I'm afraid I'll have to withdraw. If Rodion and my Manager are agreeable, perhaps I can find a suitable replacement of equal standing?

As it stands I'll be finishing with CC on the 8th June.

Sorry again, and may I wish all the best to all participants.

This is a huge loss to our team and 100% changes how my captain, and possibly some others, need to handle the last 2 rounds of the draft. We (Guerilla Gorillas) would go from not being able to hire the top 5 or so players left because we don't have the money, to being able to hire every single player in the last 2 rounds if we had the roster spots for it. Because of this, I request that the clock stops ticking on round 8 until after the dust settles and Rodion says who our players are and how much money we have remaining. We should not have to lose the chance to get a couple of the better players in round 8 simply because our money hasn't been refunded yet.

The first paragraph is what I expect should happen because of this, now I have a couple of additional requests. I don't know who the next reserve is, but I highly doubt he would be any sort of replacement for CoF, who pearl has built our team around since day 1. I know this goes against the tourney rules, but in this instance perhaps you could grant CoF's request to name his replacement.
Also, perhaps you can start the free agent rules early, allow each team to release a player and bid on CoF's replacement, rather than pearl having to pay 87 for him. There are exactly 2 players on the site I would consider paying that kind of money to (josko would be close), and the other one has apparently decided not to return from his 1 month vacation. No matter who CoF replaces himself with, to me they aren't worth quite that much. If this is asking too much, I still hope you consider my first request, and talk to pearl, see if he is willing to overpay a very good player for 2 weeks then try to win him or someone else back for less in free agency.
I know this is asking a lot, and I would completely understand if you decide to stick to the book (I will not be pulling a tonka), but this is the best player in the tournament we're talking about, a very extreme case, and this is the fairest solution I can think of for all involved. If josko quit I would be saying the exact same thing even though he's not on my team.

I say the team that had CoF for 87 should be able to have a replacement player of equal value if they can find him. Maybe CoF has a clan mate willing to take his spot or Rodin can ask around. I know it's not in the rules but this is different.

I hope no other managers would oppose. Guerilla Gorillas are getting screwed and it's unfair to them. And if you are against this-think of it this way. What if it was your team?

Above all this is suppose to be fun.

This might be a little trickier than it seems. This is what we need in order to get that going:

1 - You finding that replacement of equal standing.
2 - Your manager accepting that.
3 - The other 7 managers accepting that (they are entitled to feeling robbed, so this can't go through if they wish to block it)
4 - A TD (Night Strike, Lindax, Danryan etc) saying that not following the "order" of replacements is allowed (I don't know if TOs are forced to adopt a "first come first serve" policy regarding replacements and, if yes, whether this situation would be granted an exception).

Definition of "equal standing", by the way, is a player that will not leave the Gorillas feel they lost value nor let the other 7 managers feel they got robbed with this situation. That means the definition is entirely subjective on the 8 manager's opinions.

Option number 2 is:

a) release CoF
b) refund 87 points to the Gorillas
c) get the next person in line to replace him as a FA
d) allow every manager to release 1 player if they want to, thus giving them a fair chance to compete for this replacement player

While we don't get that solved, deadlines are lifted.

Dman007, you're the new manager of Tonka's Truck Co. You're on probation until I establish that activity won't be a problem.

I'm fully willing to get behind gorillas and allow them to either A) find a replacement player pearl is happy with paying 87 for;

Or B, refund $, allow spot open if managers want and do a start off FA round as described.

If the options change from TO perspective then I'll chime in as needed.

How about Option 3?

a) get the first person who can replace, replace COF
b) Gorilla's pick a price they think they would pay for them.
c) Let it go through once most 4/7 of the other managers agree to the price.

Something like that.

As much as I don't want to give them an edge, I don't really see as that being fair to gorillas.
They should be able to select their player(s) with a refund or get an equal (or someone they are willing to pay 87 for).

Just my opinion.

Well the problem is that I doubt there's anyone that'll be worth the price of 87 that'll also be able to play. Nor do I think that the 2nd scenario is fair to the managers. Mainly because it basically imo spits in the face of all of the drafting we did. It allows certain people to be like, "I really overpaid on this guy so I'm gonna throw him out so I can get new talent for cheaper." In fact since we're so late in the game I think it may just end up people ditching their players only to get them back at a lower price, which doesn't seem fair for the players who get released. :/

To add on, I find it funny that you say that changing the rules would go against all the work you put in, when plan B kinda kills a strat that I TRIED to do (Which I failed at doing D: )

So act like CoF wasn't there, refund the $ and don't allow any drops to FA.

Gorillas can hire who they want in replacement, and the others can make adjustments as they want in week 2 if their roster is full for the one new available guy on reserve list.

Then I'd agree. I'm just made my opinion known and if that's true then it's already been mentioned managers would hav to support it.

Anyway you never voiced opposition Til now about plan 2, you seemed to just give a third option.

I'm not a manager here but my opinion is "that sucks" for the team that got him. I understand that sucks and he has to go back to the drawing board but would we be having this discussion if it was a player that went for 15? I realize the scenarios are a little different because a team was built around him but remember when Barry Sanders retired before his time? The Lions didn't get compensated for that.

It is the cleanest way to do it. I realize one manager will be upset but the only two people you can be upset at are:
1. Yourself for planning your team of 9 around 1 player.
2. That player for signing up only to have to back out. I realize RL takes priority and that CoF figured he'd be able to play but bottom line, RL came up.

No offense to either player or manager on this one but to change things up because one player had to back out due to RL, that sucks.

The gorillas will be able to buy up anyone left in the draft they want. And quite possibly have the most funding to go into the first week of free agency. I think this will open up free agency quite a bit as more people may see a potential increase in pay coming.
taking a break from cc, will be back sometime in the future.

Agreed, 90 extra $ floating around one teams pocket (could) potentially shake things up week 2 FA.
