lol the insparation for the non country map was when i looked at crossword and thought to myself wtf is that? figured i could at least get one or 2 of those
Wow, that looks pretty cool. It definitely needs work (like country names, for a start), but it looks like it could become a really fun map. I'd play it.
so concensus so far, its retarded, but not unplayable, need a list of suggestions that woul dmake it playable, im gonna continue working on it dispite the few naysayers!

Glare away, I'm just saying that its going to take a whole load of programming after 3 people massage your ego and tell you it looks fun / good / playable
and you sit there making all the co ordinates match up, only for 10 people ever to play it.
This sites got a whole load of maps, and to be taken seriously - your map needs to improve on the existing ones.
more i dont really mind putting the effort into it if only 10 ppl will play becasue ill play it, if only 10 people playing is an issue with it ever getting approved then ill quit now, but if it has any potential to go live ill work on it for my own ammusment.
It's amusing as a concept, so I'd probably play it once, but it's not grabbing enough to secure frequent plays by me. However if the layout and strategy element is good that would secure frequent plays anyway.

My first thought is that it really ought to have more countries. Even 30-36 is a pretty small map (although not unreasonable, if your concept is one that requires it), but I think 27 might be just too few. Specifically, I'd recommend adding a whole sixth continent (probably in addition to expanding one or more of the existing ones).
Second, the strings or whatever the connecting lines are could look a lot more interesting. Maybe ribbons would be nice. If nothing else, you shouldn't have some of them sticking across the edges of the bubbles and some not: that just looks sloppy.
Third, country names. I don't really see any reason that the concept would require such non-descript names. They might be fully justified in Snakes and Ladders, but I don't see any value in doing it here. Are the smaller bubbles supposed to be "people" as well? If so, I would take Evil Pope's suggestion and give them all people-style names. Maybe each color group should be a family, so that the continents would be their surnames ("Bebbly", "Bobblin", "Babbles", or whatever), and the countries would have first names as well ("Judy Bebbly", "Jim Bebbly", "Patty Bobblin", and so forth).
Fourth, I think the continent bonuses need some revision as well, but I'll wait to see where things go with the other aspects of the map before looking too deeply into that.
Fifth, it might be worth looking into some kind of gimmick that would set the map apart from other maps. I personally feel the distinctive visual style is enough to get my interest, but that's apparently not the case for everyone. Don't try to force a gimmick into it if it doesn't fit, but if something occurs to you that you'd like to try out, give it a shot. It might make the gameplay interesting enough to attract some players who otherwise wouldn't bother trying it.
[Edit] Sixth, what image software are you using? I strongly recommend making sure that the program you pick is one that you know will handle the job well before you get too far into it. You really don't want to be halfway through the project using MS Paint, only to realize that some minor little change you need to make will require you to redraw most of your map.

this was just a rough sketch of what i wanted to try, so revamping it entirely from scratch is not a problem to fix # of countries, conector strings and overlaps.
I was thinking that i would arrange each country as a person with the territories as appendages. still looking searching for a good naming system that wont be to bulky.
Ill put some thought into a gimick, and try to have a revision up later on.
one last question before i start it though is if there is little interest how much work is it for Lack to take it from me doing all the xml work to hosting it? and if there is little interest what are the odds hell bother?
After you provide lack with the finished image files (both large and small) and the full XML, I'm not sure what he needs to do to put them online. I know it takes at least a some effort, since it's taken him a while to find the time to install the North America and USApoc maps. But on the other hand, he's implied that he's willing to put up any decent enough map that gets through the forum seive, so I wouldn't worry too much. And he can always just veto it at the end if he doesn't think it passes muster.
---I'd have to agree with Jota on most everything he has mentioned.
---This is an unsual departure from most usual maps, but that isn't necessarily bad. I like the kiddy-fun-playful feel of it. Though as Qeee1 said I'm not sure it would gather many more plays after a first few. But many people thought that about the Crossword map also, so surely we can be proven wrong.
---Jota mentioned a gimmick...perhaps you could do something similar to having a circus tent and other carnival type things down below on the ground, and these balloons(bubbles) could be escaping from that. Perhaps you could incorporate the legend into some aspect of the carnival below, perhaps on the top of the circus tent, or on a ride...etc.
---I think each of the bubbles/balloons could experiment with uniqueness. They are a large pallette that could be played with. As are the lines/strings connecting them.
This map is different and quite a stray from the norm, but I think with enough effort this could become a Niche map, and perhaps even a widely played one.
I have read through this since I last posted, and am amused by the constuctive critism posted by the map guru's.
whoever came up with this map idea is just fishing with a poor paint version of utter boring nothingness map
take the map - go away, and have a new idea other than 'bubbles' and will some of you map gurus have the ballz to reject crap ideas and suggest as i have suggested... All new maps need to better the existing maps
