i was thinking the same thing myself

the angled inset makes me think of a coastline & it runs along the coastline, just not quite parallel to it. a shame really.

is there a reason the borders inside the insets don't match the main map ?

I would bet that the borders in the insets were adjusted to fit the text after magnification. It would be nice to see that process reversed, by taking the inset, stripping the text and shrinking it back down to fit the main map.

Then done it is. The insets match the main map and the main map matches the inset.

Look, I'm sorry if I misinterpreted your post but I was merely responding to the attitude you were feeding me. You could have expressed your concerns without using the word cluster-f*** and the eye roll.

Permiting that people don't build armies as large as 1000+ everything fits in the insets. I'm assuming that by army circles you mean the digits used to represent armies? If you mean the actual circles that some maps use under the armies, then I would tell you that you wont be seeing those on this map.

i've been looking long and hard to spot problems with this map and all i could find was a single itsy bitsy thing. the stars have a yellow stroke that looks good on all terits except mojave desert and central valley where it's invisible. this makes the stars look inconsistent all over the map.
you could change the colour of the stroke, or add a shadow to make the stroke contrasting, or even remove it completely.

other than that i really like the look and feel of the map. nicely done.

I see what you're talking about and agree.

The only other thing I noticed is the strange pixel on top of the 'S' in "Chino Hills" on the large map. When I quickly glance at it I almost think it's a dollar sign ($) rather than a regular 'S'.

See what you've done to me DiM!

Okay then, take the yellow border/(stroke?) off the capital "Stars"... let's get on with it. Let's play on the California map before half of it falls into the ocean, or burns up, or is hit by a meteor...

K, I fixed the "dollar sign looking S" and I tried to make the glow on the desert stars and valley stars brighter so they look more like the other ones.

You know, a black glow would probably work better for the stars. Similar to what you have for the territory labels.

We could add a dropped shadow or...

We could just scrap the effects all together like Vlasov suggested (which I'm in favor of)

Not if it is just enough that the star "pops" out a bit, but not so much that it is not "glamorous" as you so put it. Maybe something like this:

Just noticed this border:

just add a simple 1px black stroke. no shadow or any other effects.

Small nitpick:

The border between Kings Canyon & Death Valley seems thinner than the other bonus area borders.

And if you are redrawing that border, you might consider moving it a bit so the the Kings Canyon text does not cross over it.

Another small thing: The Sacramento-Contra Costa border in the Bay Area inset is off.

Hi Bison King...i've seen this map before i left for a sojourn and it looks much better now, congrats.
forgive me for drawing over your map but I've picked up a few things that could do with attention, forgive me also if others have already mentioned them...
* the borders where circled could do with some attention
* one island doesn't look same thickness as the others
*i can't read the yellow legend continent
*are your frames intentionally meant to be different sizes on each side
* your carto names need to move inland by one or two pixels because the drop shadow is overlapping the frame
*perhaps move the Great Seal up under the legend and allow more space for your carto names down botom right corner.
and can i ask why Inland Empire and Zzyzx names?

Other than that, looking very good. :)

* Pearl Harbour * Waterloo * Forbidden City * Jamaica * Pot Mosbi
